Hyatt Amex Offer Gift Cards
Last month Hyatt and American Express came out with a great Amex Offer for stays at Hyatt Regency hotels. Here is how the offer is worded:
Get a one-time $60 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $200 or more on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Hyatt Regency hotels from 4/2/18 to 5/27/18 dates.
While saving on room charges is nice, it would be even better if there was a way to lock in this 30% savings for stays at other Hyatt properties. In the past gift card purchases have worked to trigger similar offers, so I decided to give it a try during a recent trip to Hawaii.
During my stay I went to the front desk and asked to purchase several $200 gift cards in separate transactions to use up all of my offers. Below is a sample of one of the transactions. A $200 charge for the gift card and a $60 credit a few days later!
Why Do This?
The way I see it, the biggest reason to do this is to lock in the savings for future stays and stays not at a Hyatt Regency. Even though I’m still spending the money on hotel stays, with the gift cards I am essentially getting 30% off all upcoming Hyatt stays regardless of brand. Since the offer expires soon as well, I am extending my savings past the expiration date.
Hyatt Gift Card Warning
In the past Hyatt has had issues with their gift cards being hacked. Since then they have released new cards with PIN numbers which should be more secure. If purchasing gift cards, I recommend making sure the cards have a PIN. Also, make sure to get a receipt from the property, because Hyatt will require this if something goes wrong with the cards.
Conclusion
Since I stay at Hyatt properties often including in cities like Phoenix where using points in the Summer is a bad value, I am so happy to have a 30% discount locked in. Keep in mind this will only work at Hyatt Regency hotels for this offer, but if you have one nearby and were targeted for the deal, you may want to head over there to take advantage.
