Quick Take

This Hyatt Places checks off all of the boxes if you want a decently located clean Western hotel with modern and attractive rooms. It lacks some amenities of a full service hotel, but delivers more than one would expect from the brand.

Hyatt Place Bangkok Review

With so many cheap hotels in Bangkok plus a selection of every brand of high-end hotel, I originally hesitated to stay at the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit, however I am glad I did. On a recent trip my son and I stayed at the hotel on the night before our early morning flight out of Bangkok. In this Hyatt Place Bangkok review we’ll look at our stunning suite upgrade plus some of the cool unique features that set this Hyatt place apart.

Overview & Pricing

The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is a category 1 World of Hyatt hotel, meaning it costs 5,000 points on a standard night. It can cost as low as 3,500 during low season and 6,500 points during peak season. Cash rates can often be found for around $70++. While there are many cheap hotels in Bangkok, this property can represent a good value for a Western brand, especially when factoring in the free breakfast.

  • Cash Rates: $70++ USD
  • Award Rates: 3,500 – 6,500 World of Hyatt Points

Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit Location

Unlike the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit and the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, the Hyatt Place isn’t as centrally located to all of the action, however the location isn’t bad. It is located on a side street about a 5 minute walk from two of Bangkok’s larger malls and the Phrom Phong BTS station. That means you can easily get anywhere in Bangkok via public transport plus all of the shops and services you need are just a couple of minutes by foot away.

If I had to rank which Hyatt hotels in Bangkok had the best location I would choose the Grand Hyatt first, then the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit and then finally the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit. With that said, all three have a convenient location for shopping and public transport.

Lobby & Check-In Experience

The entry way to the Hyatt Place Bangkok almost feels more like a Park Hyatt at first.

A shrine outside the Hyatt Place Bangkok

We arrived to the hotel in the evening following a two+ hour bus ride from Hua Hin. The entrance to the hotel is lit up in a very fancy way, making this unlike any Hyatt Place I had experienced before. The lobby was not on the ground level, so we took an elevator and ascended to the front desk. Between the sky lobby and fancy entrance, it almost seemed like I was at a Park Hyatt or new Andaz.

Indeed though we were at Hyatt Place. The lobby was fairly empty when we arrived and check-in was quick. During check-in I was informed that as a Globalist member I was upgraded to a suite. Yes, a suite at the Hyatt Place! 🙂

Hyatt Place Bangkok Review – The Room

When being told I was getting a suite I didn’t know what to expect. Hyatt Place hotels are often “mini-suites” and some of the newer builds have some rudimentary suites, but this was on a whole different level. Our suite was decorated with the same furniture as other rooms at this hotel, but just had added space.

The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit suite included a large bedroom (with sitting area) along with a decent size living room with desk and sofa. The sofa turned into a pull out bed similar to what you see in other Hyatt Place locations. I really liked the decor in our suite and the layout worked perfectly for us. It felt very modern and even somewhat high-end despite it being clear that the materials were of lower quality compared to the Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatt or Park Hyatt.

I was also impressed with my suite’s bathroom. Standard Hyatt Place locations generally just feature showers in their rooms, but this suite had a large bath tub that also had a shower component. There wasn’t a shower curtain though, so be prepared to get the room wet. With that said, a large usable bath tub in a Hyatt Place is definitely above brand standards.

Facilities

The Hyatt Place Bangkok has a surprisingly good list of amenities. While pools aren’t uncommon in Hyatt Place hotels, this one has a rooftop pool with pretty cool city views! (First pic above.) The gym is also fairly well equipped. Perhaps the strangest facility we found during our brief stay was an art gallery. It was located on the same floor as both the gym and pool off the hallway that connects them.

Food/Drink

While we didn’t have time to enjoy any of the dining facilities (our flight left too early to try breakfast), this Hyatt Place has a surprisingly robust selection of places to dine. In addition to the free breakfast, The Kitchen serves up lunch and dinner all day long. The real highlight of the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is the rooftop Aire Bar. It looks like a really cool spot to relax after a day of sightseeing in the city.

Hyatt Place Bangkok Review – Bottom Line

The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit fits well into the Hyatt lineup in the city. It is cheaper than its full service cousins the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit and Grand Hyatt Erewan, however it delivers a lot including very attractive rooms, a decent value on points and free breakfast.

you didn’t mention the Park Hyatt Bangkok. A year ago I split my stay at at PH and HR there and I thought PH location wasn’t bad compare to HR or GH… I especially like that the PH was sitting directly on the large mall with ton of food options downstairs and also direct walk way to the BTS station.
