IHG Properties Now Priced as High as 100K Points per Night

Earlier this year IHG confirmed it would switch to a variable pricing model for award stays. That’s rarely good news for awards. And now we have proof of that as the highest award nights have jumped to 100,000 points.

Previously the most expensive hotels were 60,000 points per night and were increased to 70,000 points per night earlier this year.

Looks like there’s three properties that are currently priced as high as 100,000 per night, depending for what time of year you search:

  • Intercontinental Maldives
  • Intercontinental Alliance Resorts The Venetian Macao
  • Intercontinental Alliance Resorts The Parisian

Conclusion

Even if these properties are not on your list, seeing 100K per night prices is concerning. It means that we could soon see other properties also jump up in price. And what’s worse, with no published categories, you wouldn’t know when that happens. You might just get surprised when you’re ready to book.

Let us know if you have come across any other proprieties with huge price increases recently.

  1. We’ve been heavy IHG users for several years and have both credit cards. The devaluation means the cards are going in the sock drawer and we will just be hanging onto them for the free nights. We get two free nights since we have both the old and the new card. We’ve switched our everyday spend and travel spending to the AMEX Gold and AMEX Platinum.

    • I would look into the Ultimate Rewards and Hyatt combo. Only issue with Amex is they don’t have a great hotel partner unless there is a transfer bonus to Hilton. I use MR for flights and UR for hotels for the most part.

  2. Good thing i was able to stay the intercontinental in Sydney for 60k .. before they jacked it up.. but 90and 100k wow!

  3. I was ok with IHG a few years ago when the elite benefits were next to worthless but you could get geed value from the program. Nowadays, the top hotels have gone from 50k a night to double that price, the IHG credit card no longer gives you a free night anywhere, and categories have been wiped. There’s just not much incentive to stay with them.

  4. Their loyalty program is just a joke. Firstly the points are worthless. Secondly, no free breakfast even for the highest level elite member. I avoid them like plague when I book business travel.

  5. I started out with IHG, but now I’m burning up the points and moving on. Not seeing much benefit in this program.

  6. Glad to see IHG destroying their program. Free night with co-branded card now capped at 40K points. And now 100K point rooms.
    Awesome.
