IHG Rewards Accelerate Promo for Q2 2018

IHG Rewards Accelerate Promo for Q2 2018

IHG Rewards Club Accelerate promo is here again for the second quarter of 2018. This is a great way to earn a nice chunk of points if you get a decent offer. During the Accelerate Promotion IHG gives you a targeted set of tasks and you earn a set number of bonus points for completing them.

How does it work?

1. Sign up for Accelerate.
2. Book and stay at any of your favorite IHG® hotels from May 1 to July 31, 2018.
3. Earn bonus points to use for great rewards.

You can sign up for the latest promotion and each Offer must be completed between 5/1/18 and 7/31/18. Let’s take a look at the offers that I see.

My Offer

This is what I see when I register for the promotion.

Not too bad.  My wife’s offer was not as good.

Conclusion

I always get excited for these promos because when they are good they are the best in the business.  Unfortunately this doesn’t happen often.  I think mine is worth considering where as my wife’s is only good for road warriors or if we had an upcoming extended trip where we were paying cash, as if!

Everyone is down on IHG right now with the IHG credit card’s devaluation but it is still worth checking.  I got 40,000 points for under $100 a few years back because of this promo.

Did you get a good offer?  A bad offer?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. Just as an aside, booking using the IHG member “Your Rate” is not a qualifying rate. We spent Spring Break on the road trying to knock out the Q1 accelerate offers and when we got back all the IHG member rate cash bookings were non-qualifying. Just in case anyone wanted to try to spend 18 nights to get 36K points in Q2.. 🙂

    • Awesome info – thanks Rick. I was wondering about that and I kind of figured IHG would be tricky SOBs like that.

  2. 2,000 Happy Anniversary Bonus Stay once and earn 2,000 bonus points.
10,000 Stay More, Earn More stay 5 night(s) and earn 10,000 bonus points.
1,500 Spend on Your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card Book and pay for one stay

25,500 Your Achievement Bonus Complete 3 of the 4 offers and earn (an additional) 25,500 bonus 2,000 2,000 May Bonus Offer Stay once in May and get 2,000 bonus points.
1,500 Exclusive Brand Bonus Stay once at an InterContinental®, Hotel Indigo® or Even® hotel

So for at least one paid stay 30,000 points and if in May 32,000 Sounds OK to me
    Accelerate Starts: 05/01/2018 Ends: 07/31/2018

  3. My wife received –

    2,000 Happy Anniversary Bonus
10,000 Stay More, Earn More – Get closer to the rewards you want when you stay 5 night(s) and earn 10,000 bonus points.
8,400 Stay at Holiday Inn Express®
9,600 Travel with the IHG® App
12,000 Explore with Confidence – Have 2 stays in any country in Europe, Greater China (China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa and earn 12,000 bonus points
1,500 Spend on Your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card
    16,800 Your Achievement Bonus
    2,000 May Bonus Offer
    1,500 Exclusive Brand Bonus
As of now there’s no way we’d be able to plan the 5 nights stay / the 2 countries stay. Others i can try and plan stays for. Worth it?

    • If you can find a cheap HI Express near you, book it through the app, pay with the IHG card, and stay in May it should net you around 25,000 points. If you can find a room for under $90 out the door I would think it is worth it if you know you could use the points.

  4. 2,000 – Stay once (Birthday bonus)
    12,000 – Stay 6 nights
1,500 – Book 1 stay with the IHG Rewards Credit Card
1,000 – When you redeem points for anything (from digital download to reward night)
    23,500 – Complete 3 of 4 above offers
2,000 – Stay once in May
1,500 – Stay once a and IC, Indigo or Even property
So I could earn 30k points by staying 1 night at any property in May + redeem an ebook for 150 points. Not bad.

  5. I got 5 nights for 10k, 3 brands for 30k, one booking for 2000, 4800 for 2 nights thru app, 1500 by using IHG card, and then 19200 after completing 4/5 of those, plus an additional 2k for a stay in May. Best one I’ve had so far, still not sure I’ll go for it though

      • If I could theoretically do mattress runs at 3 diff brands and get the 4/5 bonus for ~$250, would you say it’d be worth it (so total around 60k points)? We do have travel planned, but the IHG hotels that would actually be useful are also generally more expensive than the mattress run hotels I am looking at, plus I was going to use Hyatt points anyway. I know there aren’t usually hard yeas or nays in this hobby, but what are your thoughts?

        • 60K in points would be worth around $330 so if you could find 3 nights that cheap ($250 total) it may be worth it. But only do it if you know you could use the points over the next 6-9 months I would say.

Also consider the IHG hotels on your upcoming trips if they are comparable vs the Hyatt hotels…even if more you are able to save your valuable Hyatt points and you are basically buying points at $250 with the mattress run.

So if one or two of the hotels aren’t crazy expensive I would seriously consider it. You would basically be getting Hyatt points and bonus IHG points for those stays.

          • That makes sense. Probably wouldn’t be able to use the points anytime soon, but I’m not opposed to restocking a bit since I’m running low. Thanks for the advice!

  6. After two years of bad Accelerate offers, out of the blue this one (but not wife’s) is decent for me. Includes small bonuses for booking two stays with the IHG app, brand-specific stays (IC, Indigo or Even), using Chase IHG CC to pay, first stay in May, etc., and only two separate one-night stays to get about ~30K in points. Five nights and one of those goofy bonus points bookings would add another 13K points.

  7. Bad. 36,500 requiring 18 nights. One night at an IC/Indigo/Even in May gets 3,500, then 6k more for 3 nights total including the first night any brands. 3k per subsequent 3 night increment through 15 nights. The final 3 nights are 15k. No completion bonus, no non-stay tasks.
