IHG Rewards Fall 2015 Promotion

IHG is launching yet another task based promotion. The new promotion is called Accelerate and is comprised of a series of tasks you must complete in order to earn bonus points. Registration for the promotion began today and the promotion is good for stays between September 1, 2015 & December 31, 2015. I think the promotion is actually better than some other recent ones for existing members, but it is a KILLER deal for new members. Lets take a look!

Accelerate for Current Members

Current IHG Rewards Club members will receive a set of targeted offers in their account. To see your offers, simply visit this page and login. Both my wife and I received slightly different offers. Here are the details.

My Offer

  • 1,500 Spend on your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card – Book and pay for one stay with your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card and earn bonus points.
  • 36,700 Your Achievement Bonus – Complete 3 of 4 offers and earn (an additional) 36,700 bonus points. Terms

My Wife’s Offer

  • 1,000 Stay Once Get 1,000 – Thank you for being a loyal IHG® Rewards Club member. Stay once and earn 1,000 bonus points.
  • 6,800 Stay More, Earn More – Get closer to the rewards you want when you stay 5 night(s) and earn 6,800 bonus points.
  • 1,500 Spend on your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card  – Book and pay for one stay with your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card and earn bonus points.
  • 40,700 Your Achievement Bonus – Complete 3 of 4 offers and earn (an additional) 40,700 bonus points.
Analysis

Both of our offers will award a total of 50,000 points after 5 nights. The only difference is I get more points up front for my first night. My offer is definitely better. What is confusing is the “Complete 3 of 4 offers” language. There are only 4 offers total including the achievement bonus, so basically I have to complete everything to get the big prize. Now lets look at what they are doing for new members and how amazing it is.

Accelerate for New Members (Killer Deal)

The new member offer.

New IHG Rewards Club members who sign up for an account and register for this promotion get an AMAZING deal. Sit down before you read this. After completing two stays they receive a free night at any IHG property and then after completing two more stays they get another night. In other words, four cheap one night stays will net two free nights at much more expensive properties. Here is how it is worded:

  • Stay Twice Get Free Night Offer – Stay twice and get a Free Night.
  • Stay Twice More Free Night Offer – Stay twice more and get an additional Free Night.

Analysis

Wow! That is an amazing deal. IHG has confirmed that the free nights have to be used by December 31, 2016, however they are good at any IHG hotel in the world. This promotion is definitely mattress run worthy, especially if you have plans that will take you to a city with an aspirational IHG property.

Conclusion

It seems that IHG really wants to attract new members with their promotion. The offer of 2 free nights after 4 stays is pretty amazing considering you can stay at a low end Holiday Inn Express and redeem your free nights at a property that costs $500 or more per night. My offer is better than what I received during the past few promotions, however it doesn’t even begin to compare to what new members get.

What offer did you get on your account? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Hi Shawn,

I already have an account, can I sign up a new one with different address? also, if I travel with my girlfriend together and both signed up for IHG accounts and spent 4 nights in ATL but I booked night 1, she booked night 2, I booked night 3 and she booked night 4. do we have 2 free nights? Thanks

    • Technically you aren’t supposed to get a new account, however I know people who have done it and yes if you alternate nights and checkout of your name and check-in in your girlfriend’s it should count properly. Just make sure the hotel doesn’t somehow merge the reservations.

      • That’s risky. Thanks Shawn. I am going to PHX this weekend. if I book under my girlfriend’s name(she is new member), staying at two separate hotels within 2 days. is that OK to get one award night without space out?

also, how good is award night availability? it is different from award night by using points, right?

        Thanks

        • Two separate hotels should work fine. They say award availability is different than these certs, but I have always found certs like these to work whenever there is award space. So not guaranteed, but that has been my experience.

  2. Although, I purchased 15,000 points earlier in the year, still haven’t booked any 5000 points @ night deals. So for the current bonus on point purchase, I will get the minimum 50%. Elsewhere, Darius posted some members are being offer an extra 20,000 points when one apply for an IHG credit card and fulfill the requirements.

Complete all your offers to get 58,000 total bonus points

Stay once in September and earn 5,000 bonus points.

    6,000 Stay 3 Nights
Stay 3 nights and earn 6,000 bonus points

Get an additional 3,000 points after night 6.
Get an additional 3,000 points after night 9.
Get an additional 3,000 points after night 12
Get an additional 3,000 points after night 15
Get an additional 30,000 points after night 18

  3. I think you have a bug in your webpage. The achievement bonus is not an offer. In my case I have 4 offers

    1,000 Stay Once Get 1,000
6,800 Stay More(5 nights), Earn More
    8,000 Stay at 2 Holiday Inn® hotel(s) and earn 8,000 bonus points.
1,500 Spend on your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card

    32,700 Your Achievement Bonus
Complete 3 of 4 offers and earn (an additional) 32,700 bonus points.

So I have 4 offers and I can complete 3 of them and get 32.7k extra bonus. In your case you have only three offers so the language should be complete 3 of 3 offers to earn achievement bonus.

      • In my case(shown below) can I just book 2 nights at holiday inn and meet the three requirements(1,3 & 4) ?

        #1 1,000 Stay Once Get 1,000
        #2 6,800 Stay More(5 nights), Earn More
        #3 8,000 Stay at 2 Holiday Inn® hotel(s) and earn 8,000 bonus points.
#4 1,500 Spend on your IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card

        32,700 Your Achievement Bonus
Complete 3 of 4 offers and earn (an additional) 32,700 bonus points.

  4. Ok, now I am a problem child, for sure!

I read all of this page, especially this:

“New IHG Rewards Club members who sign up for an account and register for this promotion get an AMAZING deal. Sit down before you read this. After completing two stays they receive a free night at any IHG property and then after completing two more stays they get another night. In other words, four cheap one night stays will net two free nights at much more expensive properties. Here is how it is worded:”

I joined up (Was not yet a member because their card is Chase and I can’t get one right now) and then after signing up, looked all over their web pages. I cannot find the Accelerate offer described. Is this emailed to new members or is it that I cannot find it or is it only for selected people?

Not looking for hand holding, but if I am looking in the wrong place, can someone clear me up on this?

  5. Mine seems like I could get it all with 1 stay but I am not sure.

    Stay once get 1000
book 1 bonus points package get 3000
one stay on your card get 2300

    do these three get 33500

So if I booked a stay, added bonus points, and paid with my card would I check them all or do I need to do each one separate?

  6. Mine goes like this:

Stay once in September and gets 5k points

Stay once and get 5k points (can be combined with above if needed)

    Stay 3 nights – 6k points

    Stay 3 more (6th night) – 3k points (same for 9th night, 12th night, 15th, and 18th nights)

I’m a broke college student and a newbie to points things, so I think it would be difficult for me to do those (will be in Austin starting on September 12th-November 21st) anyway… 🙁

  7. my offer was 8 lines long, with a total of 57,000 points available, most end-loaded so that on the 18th night of stays, I get the last 30,000 miles deposited.

I’ve never actually used IHG hotels — so I think of myself as a newbie, but I have ~71,000 points in my IHG account from getting the Chase IHG Mastercard back when they were running the 70K signup bonus. I think they’re basing the offers on points in your account, to some extent.

  8. I got a pretty good offer.
    Stay once – 1000
    Stay 4 nights – 8000
Book Bonus Points Offer – 2000
    Achievement Bonus – 39000
    All In: 50000

Can I do all of them in 1 stay ?

  9. Can a member book rooms that they wouldn’t be staying in? Just thinking creatively about taking advantage, since I’m already a member.

  10. When it says “Get closer to the rewards you want when you stay 5 night(s) and earn 6,800 bonus points.”, do the 5 nights need to be consecutive in one stay?

  11. I got the following error message with a red circle and X when I login:

“We’re sorry, but you’re not eligible based on your current earning preference.”

I’m not eligible??? :(, maybe it’s because my settings are set to earn miles instead of points?

  12. I got one that gave me 7 items. last line said complete 7-8 offers to get the additional bonus which wold bring me to 93K for the offers. It is doable but 2 parts are confusing:

there are only 7 offers so what is the 7 of 8 verbiage about

one offer is to complete 4 stays booked with your corporate rate. No reference at all to what that corporate rate I would need to use is.

    • Did you use a corporate rate to book rooms in the past? Perhaps that is what they are talking about. As for the 7 of 8 thing, it seems to be an issue across all accounts. Hopefully we will get clarification, but my guess is you will have to complete all of your offers to get the bonus.

      • I am sure I have in the distant past but what that code is so that I could ensure I use the right one……I have no idea.
