Lyft Car Rental

Lyft is testing out a new service in California. When you go to book a ride in the app, besides the usual options that you expect, it will also show you a rental rate. Yes, instead of driving you, Lyft will suggest that you drive yourself.

The service works  like a traditional car-rental. For now it is available in San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles only. It also comes with a $40 Lyft credit to ride to and from the pickup location.

Rates are pretty similar to what you would get from the most popular car rental companies Most prices will vary somewhere between $40 and $80 per day. A Volkswagen Passat, for example, was offered at $75 per day, Business Insider reports.

You need to be at least 22 years old in order to rent a car from Lyft. And there’s no extra fee for those under 25, something we usually see at other rental companies.

  1. Sorta similar situation. We were flying home, not too far from Nashville. While walking to baggage claim, checked on Lyft (low $60’s). Seemed high; waited until we had our bags and headed over to pickup area. Checked again and rates were in the $80’s. Did a quick check for a one way Enterprise (24 hour) rental (drop off in the town next to mine); $37 including taxes and fees (plus gas). As we were pulling out of garage, Lyft rate had dropped to $40.
