One of the better deals as of late has been Bank of America’s Merrill+ credit card 50,000 point bonus. It was so good in fact that the bank not only took away the bonus, but all online application links for the card died as well.

As a reminder, here are some features of the card:

  • Earn 1X Everywhere.
  • No annual fee.
  • Points are worth 1 cent each for statement credits or up to 2 cents each for airfare.
  • Get either a Delta SkyClub Membership or a $200 travel credit after $50K in spend annually.

While this card isn’t great for everyday spend, the ability to get up to 2 cents per point value towards airfare makes this bonus potentially worth $1,000. Even at a cash value of 1 cent, a $500 bonus on a no annual fee card is darn good.

How to Get the Offer

As I mentioned before, there are no more application links for this card, but there is apparently a way you might be able to still get it. According to Doctor of Credit, people have had success getting this card by calling Bank of America at 866-751-1257 and applying over the telephone.

Some people have only received a 25K bonus despite being verbally told the bonus was 50K. To make sure you get the correct offer, make sure to clarify the bonus with the agent, write down their name/ID, all of the details they give you and the date/time of the call. This way you can dispute things if you are given a lower bonus for some reason.

Conclusion

While calling in to make a credit card application can be a bit of a pain, this is definitely a bonus worth looking at if you didn’t previously apply. For many Bank of America is an underutilized bank, so if you have the ability to get new cards with them and the patience to spend about 30 minutes applying, then you might want to consider this card.

  1. Asking the same question (no answer yet) that I asked over at DOC: Any idea if the situation is better if one has their investment portfolio already with Merrill Lynch? Would I benefit from having my broker work with me in applying for the card?

  2. When I received my card after I applied when it was still available online, I received an insert that says “Get a one-time bonus of 50,000 Merrill points* after making at least $3,000 in purchases within the first 90 days.” Does this mean the bonus can only be received once per person?
