Another Resource Rolling Out

The other day I published a resource listing links to the award charts, elite benefits and sign-up pages for all of the major hotel loyalty programs.

Today I am pleased to launch another resource, a guide to Liquidating Prepaid Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Both can be found on the menu of any page under the “Resources” section.

The Right Time For This

This time of year there are so many great gift card promotions, so it felt like the right time to develop develop this resource. Between recent Staples deals and the current amazing Officemax promotion, I am sure many of you have a nice supply of these gift cards.

I originally wrote some of this information in a post in June related to an Officemax promotion that was going on then. Now it will be a constantly updated resource for everyone to enjoy!

If you’d like, head over there to check it out and let me know what you think!

  1. Looks like a great resource, thanks for taking the time to create it.

I picked up one useful tip that I hadn’t known before, that being using Evolve to pay bills using these $200 vgc’s. I knew about Evolve, but I didn’t know you could use these gc’s to actually make the payments.

  2. Needs some work.

Lots of bills can be paid with credit cards directly, so accept these gift cards automatically without needing to go through Evolve. Those that do need to use Evolve may not be payable with Evolve now that they’ve instituted a one payment a month rule.

I haven’t seen a working Kate in months.

Many Walmart employees remember their training and will refuse to load your Bluebird or Serve card with a gift card. You will need to be prepared for this and NOT MAKE A FUSS IF IT HAPPENS. Try again.

    • You are right that you can use these to pay normal bills directly through companies like utilities.

As for Walmart, I have dealt with hundreds of employees at over 20 stores during the past few years and can count on one hand how many times I have been asked what kind of card I am using. Those few times I simply said debit and they never questioned me again.

Regarding the kiosks, many people have written to me to say their kiosks are working. I have had rock solid kiosks in my area for awhile, although they seem to be breaking down a lot now. So yes kiosks are YMMV, but they certainly are still around.

I can and only share things that work for me based on several years of experience. So much of this type of stuff depends on you, your attitude and where you live. What works for one person may not work for another one. Thanks for the feedback Glenn! I will add the language about paying bills directly with billers.
