Office Depot Visa Gift Card Rebate

Office Depot Visa Gift Card Rebate

Office Depot and OfficeMax have a new Visa gift card deal this week that can earn you credit card rewards. The offer is not on the weekly ad, but should be posted in stores. Let’s take a look at the details.

The Offer

  • Save $10 instantly when you buy $300 of Visa® gift cards.

Key Terms

  • Limit one (1) offer per customer.
  • Discount applied at register.
  • Offer valid 3/10/19 through 3/16/19.
  • Offer valid in store on Visa® Gift Cards only.
  • Visa Gift Card is issued by Metabank.

While the limit of 1 discount is probably hard-coded into the register, some stores will allow you to do multiple transactions. This varies from store to store and even sometimes from cashier to cashier!

The Math

You can purchase $200 Visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee.

Generally the best option is to purchase 2 of the $200 Visa gift cards. When doing so, the math works out like this:

  • Cost of cards: $413.90
  • Minus instant rebate: -$10
  • Final cost: $403.90
  • Loss: $3.90

Maximize

It is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores such as a Chase Ink Cash/Plus. For example, a Chase Ink card would earn 2,020 Ultimate Rewards pointsAlternatively, an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores would earn you $20.20 cashback.

Liquidating

Visa gift cards sold by Officemax/Office Depot are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. Thankfully they are generally easier to liquidate than Mastercard gift cards. These cards should work fine to load Bluebird/Serve at Walmart and work many other places. For more detailed information on liquidating these cards, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

Conclusion

We haven’t seen these deals from Office Depot in a while. It could be useful to get some super cheap Ultimate Rewards points, especially now that some major online gift card opportunities have dried up. Hopefully you’re able to get the instant discount multiple times at your location.

Happy 5Xing!

  1. Do you know of any limitations on using the XXX Anywhere VS GCs (like grocery, dining, style, etc)? Activation fee is 4.95 rather than 6.95 per card.

  2. @ABC -xxxanywhere cards are the best deal at OD/OM. Style, grocery work all the time while dining does not at some small wallies but works like a charm at the ones that sell fresh produce….

    • That is my experience as well. Just be careful going to deep into them if you haven’t tested them out anywhere yet @ABC. But Grocery is the safest bet imo.
