Office Depot Visa Gift Card Rebate
NOW LIVE – Wear those Ink cards out!!!
Office Depot and Officemax have a new Visa gift card deal starting Sunday, December 17th. Let’s take a look at the details.
- Save $10 instantly when you buy $300 of Visa® gift cards.
- Limit one (1) offer per customer.
- Discount applied at register.
- Offer valid 12/17/17 through 12/23/17.
- Offer valid in store on Visa® Gift Cards only.
- Visa Gift Card is issued by Metabank.
While the limit of 1 is probably hard-coded into the register, some stores will allow you to do multiple transactions. This varies from store to store and even sometimes from cashier to cashier!
You can purchase $200 Visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee.
Generally the best option is to purchase 2 of the $200 Visa gift cards. When doing so, the math works out like this:
- Cost of cards: $413.90
- Minus instant rebate: -$10
- Final cost: $403.90
- Loss: $3.90
It is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores such as a Chase Ink Cash/Plus. For example, a Chase Ink card would earn 1,995 Ultimate Rewards points. Alternatively, an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores would earn you $19.95 cashback.
You can get another $4 through their rewards program which gives you 2% back, but it’s capped at $200 per quarter.
There’s also an Amex Offer on a lot of business cards, and you can use it if you haven’t done so already. You could possibly split transaction on a few cards. In e perfect world, if you have the offer and are allowed to split it among 8 Amex Cards, you could get a $80 discount on two $200 Visa Gift Cards, besides the $10 instant rebate.
Visa gift cards sold by Officemax/Office Depot are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. Thankfully they are generally easier to liquidate than Mastercard gift cards. These cards should work fine to load Bluebird/Serve at Walmart and work many other places. This is not the best deal since the instant discount is only $10, but it could still be useful to get some super cheap Ultimate Rewards points, especially now that some major online gift card opportunities have dried up. Hopefully you’re able to get the instant discount multiple times at your location.
