Priority Pass Increased Lounge Fee

Many people have a Priority Pass membership through a premium credit card. Some forms of these memberships come with included lounge visits, while others require a pay per use. Unfortunately on October 1, 2019 the Priority Pass lounge fee will go up. Here is what they sent in an email to customers.

On October 1st, 2019 we will be increasing the fee for chargeable lounge visits to $32 per visit per person. Any complimentary visits included as a part of your membership will not be affected by this fee increase.

It has been over 11 years since we have increased our visit fees and during this time we have done all we can to absorb the rising costs of providing airport lounge access to our Members. We have unfortunately reached the point where we need to make an adjustment to our prices to maintain the quality offering of Priority Pass.

Unfortunately, this also means the price you pay for any guests over and above your allowance will be going up. Additionally, the per guest cost at restaurants, etc. will be going up to this new rate. I suspect using a paid lounge visit on a restaurant won’t be a good deal.

Complimentary Visits

Once again, if your Priority Pass membership comes with complimentary visits then you still won’t pay a fee. You only pay this new Priority Pass increased lounge fee if you have guests over your membership’s allowance.

My membership plan includes complimentary visits, will this price increase mean I have fewer visits included in my membership?

No, the number of complimentary visits included within your membership will not change. However, any visits taken over the complimentary allowance will be charged at the new visit fee from the October 1st, 2019.

Conclusion

This isn’t a huge surprise given how long it has been since Priority Pass has raised prices. Over the past few years Priority Pass has also expanded quite a bit which no doubt has increased operating costs. A side effect of this down the road will be increased costs to card issuers who pay for complimentary memberships, but we’ll have to deal with that in the form of reduced benefits or increased costs.
