Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers According to Value

Some of these offers may have ended

Delta and American Express launched increased offers on their co-branded cards a few weeks back.  Those offers are coming to an end next week. I figured I would rank the cards according to the value offered from the welcome offers. I will also add in some commentary of other things to consider when choosing which card is best for you.

Ranking the Delta Welcome Offers According to Value

These rankings are based on a 1.25 cent per point valuation for Delta Skymiles.  I also added in any statement bonus at 100% value (ways to maximize these) and then subtracted the annual fee. Remember that all of these cards come with Amex’s standard once per lifetime welcome offer language.

I will do these rankings from least to most valuable:

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers biz

Delta Reserve Business Credit Card – $550 in value

  • Earn 80,000 bonus miles and 5,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after spending $6,000 within your first 3 months.
  • The $450 Annual Fee IS NOT waived.
  • Delta Sky Club access – you must have an arriving or departing Delta ticket to access the lounge.  Can bring in up to 2 guests for $29 a piece.
  • Priority boarding and an upgrade tie breaker.
  • LEARN MORE

Coming in with the least value offer is the Delta Reserve Business card.  This offer does not come with a statement credit and carries a large annual fee.  That combination weighs down the value of the large 80,000 Skymiles welcome offer.

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers personal

Delta Reserve Personal Credit Card – $587.50

  • Earn 75,000 bonus miles and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after spending $5,000 within your first 3 months.
  • $100 Statement credit.
  • The $450 Annual Fee IS NOT waived.
  • Delta Sky Club access – you must have an arriving or departing Delta ticket to access the lounge.  Can bring in up to 2 guests for $29 a piece.
  • Priority boarding and an upgrade tie breaker.

This offer is only available via personal referral. The regular public offer does not have the $100 statement credit.

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers gold personal

American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles – $800

  • Earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 within your first 3 months.
  • A $50 statement credit when you make your first Delta purchase
  • $95 Annual fee IS waived the first year
  • LEARN MORE

Even though the personal Delta Gold card comes with a waived annual fee the 60,000 Skymiles welcome offer is the lowest in the bunch.  After adding in the $50 statement credit you come away with $800 in value.

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers plat

American Express Platinum Delta SkyMiles – $842.50

  • Earn 75,000 bonus miles and 5,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after spending $3,000 within your first 3 months.
  • A $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months.
  • $195 annual fee IS NOT waived.
  • LEARN MORE

The personal Amex Delta Platinum card comes in next on the list with a healthy 75K welcome offer and a nice $100 statement credit which cuts the $195 annual fee essentially in half.

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers plat biz

Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Card – $905

  • Earn 80,000 bonus miles and 5,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after spending $6,000 within your first 3 months.
  • A $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months.
  • $195 annual fee IS NOT waived
  • LEARN MORE

Slightly edging out the personal version is the business version of the Platinum Delta Skymiles card.  It comes with a 5K more welcome offer. Although that 5K more in Skymiles comes with $3,000 more in minimum spend, something to consider.

Ranking the Delta Skymiles Increased Offers gold biz

Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card – $925

  • Earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 within your first 3 months.
  • A $50 statement credit when you make your first Delta purchase
  • $95 Annual fee IS waived the first year
  • LEARN MORE

If you guessed the Gold Delta business card would come in first then you are probably fibbing 🤣.  But with it’s robust 70K Skymiles welcome offer, the $50 statement credit, and the waived annual fee it gives you a healthy $925 in value.

Other Considerations

It is not always all about the Benjamins yo 😉! Sometimes the perks and status are what truly matters.  If you need the MQMs to reach the next tier of status with Delta or you just want lounge access then the personal Delta Reserve is probably your best bet.  You may lose $400 on the front end but reaching status easier and chilling in Delta lounges may be worth more than that to you.

Final Thoughts

People like to bash Skymiles, even when they are offering value to Europe, but these offers from American Express are no joke.  Getting over $900 on any credit card is a really good offer.  These offers end 7/2/19 so be sure to snatch one now if you have been considering them.
