Safeway/Albertson’s Visa Gift Card Deal

Safeway, Albertson’s, Vons and other affiliated stores that use the Just4U program have a new promotion on Visa gift cards which can be a moneymaker. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

Save $10 instantly when you buy a $150 Visa gift card.

Key Terms

  • Expires 5/26/2018
  • Limit 1

Loading the Offer

This offer comes in the form of a digital coupon that needs to be loaded to your Just4U account. To load the offer:

  • Visit the website of your Just4U brand (ex.
  • Login to your Just4U account.
  • Click on Just4U on the top left
  • Navigate to the “Special Offers” category and you’ll see the coupon

The best option for maximizing is to use a card that earns a category bonus at grocery stores. Freedom & Discover both pay 5% back this quarter at grocery stores and various other cards earn bonuses when grocery shopping.

When buying, variable load Visa gift cards are excluded (however sometimes in the past they have worked despite the terms), so it is probably best to purchase a $200 Visa gift card if your store sells them.

The coupon is limited to one-time use only per account, but it still has the potential to be a great way to achieve negative/low cost spend. It may be worth a visit if you have any of these supermarkets nearby.

  1. I got the $10 off of Dining Everywhere $20-$200 variable visa at 2 Safeway stores in Colorado. Loaded $200 without a problem.

    • Yeah, they didn’t work for me on Dining Everywhere gc’s here in San Diego. Tried $150 and $200 on different numbers.

  2. I think I’ve been out-gamed. 🙂

At an Acme store, the highest fixed value Visa was a $50 with a $4.95 fee. The highest fixed value Mastercard was $100, with a $5.95 fee.

So unless somebody can find a variable card that triggers the discount, there’s absolutely no deal here. Even though it seems like there should be.

  3. It would definitely be interesting to see what works. Heck, I hope the “plain vanilla” $200s work. I’ve had bad luck on their last few promos with the regular cards not being loaded in the system.
