Lawsuit Filed Against Sam’s Club Over Gift Card Issues
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Sam’s Club, claiming that it sells gift cards that are not properly loaded with money, and refuses to refund the credited amount.
Plaintiff Steven Lockwood says that on two occasions in 2017 he attempted to purchase gift cards from the discount chain.
The first time, Lockwood alleges that he purchased two Disney gift cards for $144.98 each and an additional American Express gift card for $500. The amounts were never loaded on these cards, but Lockwood says he was eventually paid back.
The plaintiff purchased the gift cards again, but this time he left the store without the gift cards in his possession despite having paid more than $700 for them.
According to the plaintiff, he went back to Sam’s Club and reviewed store tapes with a manager to establish that he had purchased the gift cards but didn’t receive them. The manager indicated he would have to call the corporate office, however. Lockwood says that when he attempted to get a refund, Sam’s Club corporate office refused.
Lockwood alleges that he is out $794.44 for the gift cards he purchased at Sam’s Club and that other consumers have faced the same problem.

I’m confused by the second time where he bought the gift card but he didn’t take them with him??
But I am aware of the issues where if you bought gift cards on samsclub.com you come sometimes get unloaded gift cards, and it’s a real PITA try to get a refund with CS.
And then there’s someone who purchased , if I recall correctly, children’s palace gift cards but the value was denied by the merchant, and the merchant told him to go ask Sam’s club for refund but Sam’s club won’t do it, so he’s like stuck in between with no party owning responsibility for the disappearance of the gift card. I believe at first it was loaded with money though.
This is why no one in this hobby or country can have nice things. Idiot.
The gift card company could put a fraud alert on, if they which cards he bought.
So, the second time he left the store after purchasing the cards and simply forgot them? How is that a Sam’s Club problem? Sounds like an idiot problem…no different than dropping $700 in cash and expecting Sam’s Club to hand him $700.
And in the first case, he got his money back, so where’s the harm?

First of all he sounds stupid for forgetting to get the gift cards upon leaving the store.
Secondly, even if he was lying and he had the cards, couldn’t they track usage and if the card was used? And where exactly it was used?
Doubt he was telling the truth.
