Save on Disney Gift Cards
The other day I was part of a Disney panel at a travel conference and predictably one of the first questions that came up was about saving money on Disney gift cards. It has often been possible to save about 5% or so from places like Target or Sam’s Club, but there is one consistently better way that you can consistently save on Disney gift cards, especially if you are playing the long game.
Raise Promos to Save on Disney Gift Cards
Raise is a marketplace where sellers list and sell gift cards to buyers like you, often at a discount. The key to how to save on Disney gift cards doesn’t come specifically with Raise, but with the promotions they run. For example, new customers are eligible for $10 off a $100 gift card and they often send this same promo as a targeted offer for existing customers as well.
How I Saved 15.4% on a Disney Gift Card Using Raise
The other day I received a $10 off $100 targeted Raise promo on my account and quickly set forth to purchase a discounted Disney gift card. Unfortunately all of the Disney gift cards listed had a 0% discount. Thankfully that was about to get a whole lot better. After searching Cashback Monitor I learned that Mr. Rebates had the best cashback rate that day for Raise at 6%. I clicked through to Raise, used my coupon and this was the result.
Not bad! 10% off Disney is respectable, but I still get my portal cashback as well! In this case Mr. Rebates is giving me 6% of $90 back as a rebate on my purchase. That brings my total cost of a $100 Disney gift card to $84.60. That is how you save on a Disney gift card!
Can This Be Scaled?
Okay so I saved over 15%, but it was limited to only $100. So is this scalable? While the exact Disney gift card savings will vary, yes it absolutely is. Raise runs public promos in addition to these targeted $10 off $100 promos. The key is to combine these promotions of 5-7% off all gift cards with a good portal deal.
While the biggest portal offer available on the date of my purchase was 6%, it often goes higher. In the past couple of months Raise has spiked to 10% and even 15% cashback. Time that right with another promo and you have a winner of a deal.
Cashback Monitor Portal Alerts
I feel like this probably should warrant its own post at some point, but it is possible to set alerts so you can learn when cashback levels are increased at Raise or elsewhere. You’ll simply need to sign up for a free Cashback Monitor account and set your alerts for Raise.com (or any other store) under your account in the “Manage My Alerts” section. (HT: Richard Kerr)
More Accounts = More Discounts
Between combining promos and monitoring cashback levels over time you should be able to amass a decent chunk of Disney gift cards at a solid discount compared to elsewhere. If you still need even more gift cards consider asking family/friends to get their own Raise accounts. Their new customer promo will get about 15% off as shown above, plus they’ll then be eligible for future targeted promos. It doesn’t hurt to ask?
Multiple Accounts Per Household – Warning
One more little warning though before you sign-up everyone in your household. I have found that promo codes and discounts tend to only work once per household. My wife and I both have an account, however we can only use discounts once between them. Raise links them via address so that is something to keep in mind.
It may still be beneficial to have multiple accounts in order to get more targeted offers, since you want to be eligible for as many deals as possible. I would still limit my accounts to one per person, or at least that is what I do in my family.
Save on Disney Gift Cards – Bottom Line
While I saved about 15% on a Disney gift card in this scenario, over time I have saved a lot more. I am constantly stocking away these Disney gift cards as the deals come and find myself with enough cards to lock-in this level of savings. Sure, I also take advantage of the occasional Amex Offer for great Disney savings, I think this method is a more consistent way to save on Disney gift cards.

I noticed that all of the Disney gift cards on Raise are digital and it says they can only be used online. Is that true? If so, is there a way to convert them to physical cards? I’m interested in Disney gift cards to use in their parks to buy food, beverage, merchandise.

In the past I’ve used discounted Happy Guy cards to buy Disney at Home Depot. I’ve also used discounted Happy Lady cards to buy Disney GC at BBB. Not sure if this still works though. When I did that, it was very scalable. I bought more than $1500 worth of Disney GC using that method.
Right now I have the extra 4X Membership Rewards offer on my BBP AmEx card at Sams Club. It might be worth buying the slightly discounted cards at Sam’s and getting 6X Membership Rewards in the process.
There is a Happy coupon at Safeway/Albertson’s right now that gives 10% off. Hopefully another 15% off Happy deal comes around!
