Getting To India Part 4 – Singapore Airlines 777-200 Business Class Review SIN-BLR
I returned to Singapore Changi International Airport after a long day spent in the city with a friend. Thankfully the Crowne Plaza Changi gave me a late enough check out that I was able to take a quick shower before heading out for my flight to Bangalore, India. Changi Airport really is a pleasure to deal with and I was through immigration and in the lounge in no time. (Lounge review coming later.)
Singapore Airlines 777-200 SIN-BLR
For my flight from SIN-BLR I flew on a Singapore Airlines 777-200 with a regional configuration. The angled lie flat seats are configured in a 2-2-2 layout. I was in seat 12A which is a bulkhead seat on the left side of the cabin.
Almost immediately after boarding, the flight attendant came over and introduced herself. She then offered me a drink and a bag of mixed nuts. The business class cabin was probably less than half full for this flight, so I once again didn’t have anyone sitting next to me.
Our flight took off on time from Changi and once in the air, the flight attendants quickly began the service by handing out menus. The starter on this flight was a delicious Prawn Salad with grill vegetables and sun dried tomatoes. (Pictured above.)
For a main, I had ordered the Prawn & Chicken Laksa in advance from the Singapore website using their Book The Cook service. (Thanks to Gary Leff for the recommendation.) It was definitely the best dish I have ever had on an airplane. The Laksa tasted as if it had been served at a top restaurant on the ground! Highly recommended.
Singapore Airlines also offers a wide variety of beer, wine & spirits in addition to gourmet coffees and teas. I had decided to try a Scotch on this flight, so I ordered a Johnnie Walker Black. The flight attendant brought me a glass containing what must have been half the bottle, which was too much to drink. It was nice though. (Although not as nice as Johnnie Walker Blue on Cathay First Class!)
For dessert I had the mint chocolate chip ice cream with berry compote. While I was stuffed after snacking in the lounge and eating my delicious meal on board, I tried a couple of bites and can indeed tell you that it was the perfect end to an incredible meal.
Following dinner I settled in and began watching a movie on what looked to be a 15″ screen. This screen was mounted on the bulkhead which was nice. Last year I flew on a SQ 777-200 from Bali to Singapore and the plane had 5″ screens that came out of the armrests. The quality was so bad, that I really couldn’t watch anything.
This Singapore Airlines flight’s entertainment offerings were far superior when compared to my two Air China flights. Almost every one of this year’s Oscar nominated films was available for viewing along with a selection of television shows and games. Lets just say my only struggle with the entertainment was deciding which films I wanted to watch.
The flight from Singapore to Bangalore was four and a half hours. The seats on this plane were angled lie flat and very comfortable. No amenity kit was offered, but they did provide foot booties and a pillow & blanket.
Shortly before landing I did manage to sneak in a little nap, but I wasn’t too tired and thus didn’t try the seat out in its sleeping position. While I wouldn’t want to be in these seats on an overnight long haul, they were very nice for this mid-range flight.
This was my third time flying on Singapore Airlines in Business Class and I have come to enjoy just about everything about the experience. The cabin crew was friendly, efficient and pleasant in providing service and everything I wanted was provided as quickly as possible.
While the plane was comfortable and the entertainment enjoyable, the highlight of this flight for me was the food. The Prawn & Chicken Laksa was nothing short of amazing and the other food was delicious as well. In the end, I don’t really have a bad thing to say about this flight or Singapore Airlines in general.
