Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Security Changes

Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Security Changes

Singapore Airlines Krisflyer is perhaps one of the better known international airline loyalty programs. Krisflyer has some interesting sweet spots, plus it is the best way to score seats in Singapore Airlines premium cabins and is also a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou. I suspect because of this many of you have a Krisflyer account. If you do, be aware of some upcoming Singapore Airlines Krisflyer security changes going into effect next week.

Login with Email & New Password Requirement

Beginning on September 24, 2019 Singapore Airlines Krisflyer will make the following two changes to the login process:

  • You will have the flexibility to log in to your KrisFlyer membership account using the email address registered with your account, or continue to log in to your account with your 10-digit KrisFlyer membership number.
  • The current 6-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) used for KrisFlyer member login will be replaced with a password* login. You will be prompted to update your PIN to a password when you next log in to your KrisFlyer membership account.

This is a good enhancement and having a real password will make things more secure. Additionally, you will no longer need to remember your account number which is a plus.

Enhanced Security – Update Your Account

Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Security Changes

Here is what you need to do on or before September 24, 2019 to ensure this transition goes smoothly:

  • If you would like to use your email address to log in to your KrisFlyer account, please ensure that the email address registered in your KrisFlyer profile is unique to your account and is not shared with another KrisFlyer member account.
  • Ensure that the mobile number and email address registered with your KrisFlyer account is kept up-to-date, as a SMS/email will be sent to your mobile number/email address as part of the two-factor authentication (2FA) process, before you will be able to change your PIN to a password.

My Thoughts

We have heard story after story of loyalty program accounts getting hacked (including a HUGE hack of my JetBlue account), so it is nice to see Singapore Airlines Krisflyer get serious about security, even if it is 2019. I do like that they are also enabling two factor authentication, a move that will add much more security even on top of the new password requirement. Overall these changes are a huge positive for Krisflyer members given the added security.
