Southwest Schedule Extension & Fare Sale

Southwest has opened their schedule up for bookings through October 30, 2015. Since Southwest generally opens up their schedule every few months, this will probably be the last extension before the upcoming devaluation.

The company is also launching a number of new routes which are now bookable because of this extension. Until 2/22 the following new routes are on sale:

  • Columbus and Boston Logan with one-way travel as low as $69
  • Columbus and Oakland (San Francisco Bay Area) with one-way travel as low as $139
  • Santa Ana/Orange County and Portland, Ore. with one-way travel as low as $99
  • Washington, D.C. (Reagan National) and Fort Lauderdale (Miami Area) with one-way travel as low as $94

You can find out more info in about the new routes and the sale terms in the company’s press release.

Hopefully we will see one more schedule extension before the April 17, 2015 mystery devaluation, but I wouldn’t count on it.

As I wrote last week, I expect the changes to be substantial. Hopefully Southwest will announce the details soon, but in the mean time you may want to scout where and how to spend your points.

  1. Hello,

I’m new to the site, and and to the whole points game. Your site is great for someone like me just starting out, so big thumbs up for that!

I was hoping for some advice regarding Southwest Rapid Rewards and the upcoming devaluation.

My family and I (4 Adults, 2 Kids) are going to Disney World in November. As you know, I can’t currently book a flight with Southwest in November. and likely won’t be able to till after the devaluation.

I am currently waiting for my Southwest Rewards Visa to arrive, and will be able to reach the min spend in no time, so I should have my 50,000 points within a billing cycle. Ultimately I am working on the companion pass.

Anyway, I guess what I am asking is should I book a flight for sometime in October, then change it after the November flights are announced? If so, would I still get the same point values or would I have to use more points?

    Thanks for any input.

    • No to change the dates you would basically cancel your October reservation and rebook at the then current rates. Unfortunately there isn’t a way around this. Hopefully they will be nice and release more space before the devaluation, however I wouldn’t count on it.
