Staples Gift Card Deal

Staples Visa & Mastercard Gift Card Rebate Deal

Staples will have negative cost Visa and Mastercard gift card deal coming next week. On top of that you can also generate 5X UR points as well. Let’s take a look!

Link to add – deal is on page 6

The Deal

  • Get a $15 Staples prepaid card by mail with your Visa or MasterCard gift card purchase of $300 or more.

Key Terms

  • Deal valid from 11/5/17 to 11/18/17
  • In-store only.
  • Limit 1 rebate per name/address/household.

Maximizing the Deal

Staples Gift Card Deal

This deal is usually best maximized by using a card that earns 5X at office supply stores like the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash. You can also use an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores.

Using the Chase Ink, the optimal strategy is to purchase 2 of the $200 cards which cost $206.95 each. Here is the math:

  • Cost: $413.90
  • Minus Rebate: $15 (worth $12.45 on resale market)
  • Final Cost: -$1.10
  • UR Points Earned: 2,070

You could also purchase a $200 card and a $100 card, but the savings of $1 on fees doesn’t justify the loss of 500 Ultimate Rewards points on the extra $100 in spend.

Conclusion

This is not the best offer from Staples since the rebate comes in the form of a Staples gift card, but these are still nice deals if you have a Staples nearby. Stock tends to run out quickly, especially for the $200 Visa GC denominations, so I wouldn’t go far out of the way to get the cards later in the week.  Also get the Visa GC before the the Mastercard version since they are easier to deal with and have less theft issues.

This is a good way to pickup a chunk of points and a few dollars too. If you have some friends, parents or neighbors that won’t mind you using their address, you can get some extra rebates.

  1. Thanks for the heads up!

Question… I submitted recently for a Staples rebate just like this one and I received an email stating I was not eligible for this offer as I had already submitted for this offer just recently.

I called in and spoke to a representative who explained the offers were the same – although in different weeks. He went ahead and pushed it through however.

Isn’t each week a different bonus offer?

    • Yes they should be – I have never heard of that before. Very weird. I am guessing it was just a glitch.

    • See Afam-dfw’s comment below. You may want to go back to the store and speak with a manager. That is pretty shady imo so you should be able to get the gift card out of them.

  2. I had the same issue after buying 2 $200 blue Visa cards.

Problem is that the sku for that card is not listed as eligible in the ad. However, there is no way to know sku before purchase and no refunds afterwards.

I asked for manager and explained there was no way for me to know my purchase wouldn’t qualify since the sku wasn’t on card or shelf. I was initially denied but after discussion of misleading advertising and possible better business complaint, they gave a a $15 gift card.

    • Good point Jeff – although I hate Mastercards….especially with the USPS not an option for them anymore.
