Staples Mastercard Gift Card Deal
Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. They do often run rebate promos on these cards, however the rebates are limited to one per household meaning it gets hard to scale up. Well, this week they are trying something different. Let’s take a look.
- No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Mastercard® Gift Card
- Valid 4/22/18–4/28/18.
- The Mastercard® Gift Card is issued by U.S. Bank National Association, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International.
- Limit 1 per customer.
You can find the full terms in the weekly ad on page 2.
Maximizing This Deal
Since there seems to be a limit of 1 discounted purchase fee per transaction (who knows if that will be enforced), it is probably best to purchase $200 cards in order to achieve the most spend. Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.
Spending the Mastercards
These Mastercards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Mastercard is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.

Given that Office Depot just ended their generous Visa gift card rebate I’m sure some of your Ink cards have fatigue, but get them ready to go again with this deal. It’s nice to see Staples move away from the restricted rebate program to a discount that is seemingly more scalable. Even if it is with Mastercards. 🙁
