Staples Mastercard Gift Card Deal
For a long time Staples has run Visa and Mastercard mail-in rebate deals, but now they seem to have switched over to instant discounts. This coming week they have a Mastercard discount that may be of interest to some. Let’s take a look.
- Get $5 off when you purchase a $200 Mastercard gift card.
- Valid 8/5/18–8/11/18.
- For use in the U.S. only.
- Limit 1 per customer.
You can find the full terms in the weekly ad on page 10.
Maximizing This Deal
There seems to be a limit of 1 discounted purchase fee per transaction, however this wasn’t necessarily enforced during past deals. The fee on a $200 Mastercard is $6.95 so this deal brings the cost to $1.95. Not as good as this week’s Office Depot Visa deal, but potentially profitable.
The best option is an American Express Business credit card that has the 10% Staples Amex Offer. That will give you $22 back for each $200 card.
Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. You can also use just one Amex card to get $5 off with the latest Amex Offer.
I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.
Spending the Mastercards
These Mastercards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Mastercard is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.

In my opinion you can never get enough office supply store gift card deals. While this one isn’t as big of a blockbuster as some others, it still represents a solid way to get some spend and perhaps even earn 5X. There’s currently a similar offer available online, for those who do not have Staples locations nearby.
