Staples Mastercard Gift Card Deal

Staples Mastercard Gift Card Deal

This coming week Staples has a Mastercard discount that may be of interest to some. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

  • Get $5 off when you purchase a $200 Mastercard gift card.

Key Terms

  • Valid 10/21/18–10/27/18.
  • For use in the U.S. only.
  • Limit 1 per customer.

You can find the full terms in the weekly ad on page 6.

Maximizing This Deal

There seems to be a limit of 1 discounted purchase fee per transaction, however this wasn’t necessarily enforced during past deals. The fee on a $200 Mastercard is $6.95 so this deal brings the cost to $1.95.

The best option is an American Express Business credit card that has the 10% Staples Amex Offer. That will give you $22 back for each $200 card. Be careful using this offer though.

Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and American Express SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases.

I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.

Spending the Mastercards

These Mastercards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Mastercard is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.

In my opinion you can never get enough office supply store gift card deals. While this one isn’t as big of a blockbuster as some others, it still represents a solid way to get some spend and perhaps even earn 5X.
