Staples Visa Gift Card Deal

Staples Visa Gift Card Deal

Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. They do often run rebate promos on these cards. This coming week, they are waiving the fees on Visa gift cards which makes this an easy way to rack up Ultimate Rewards!

The Offer

  • No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Visa® Gift Card

Key Terms

  • Valid 9/1/19–9/7/19.
  • The Visa Gift Card is issued by MetaBank
  • Limit 1 per customer.

You can find the full terms in the upcoming ad (make sure to select next week’s ad date from the drop down) on page 15.

Maximizing This Deal

There’s a limit of 1 per customers. Cards like the Chase Ink Cash, Ink Plus and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.

Liquidating Visa Gift Card

The Visa gift card is pin-enabled. The PIN number is usually the last four digits of the card number. You can utilize my previous liquidation strategy or simply use it for normal spend.

Conclusion

It’s nice to see Staples bring back this offer, as many 5X sources have been drying up lately. Most people probably prefer Visa gift cards, so this is your opportunity to fill up your Ultimate Rewards accounts.

  1. Boy oh boy the Staples near me is a pain. They are constantly “out” of the $200 cards for these promos….if you’re sneaky and open the gift card rack at my store you’ll see a half dozen unopened packs of $200 cards (I’ve had sales people yell at me for doing this…). One of the employees actually admitted to me that the manager often times tells them to hide the cards and stop selling so many. Has anyone else had this experience with Staples? They also rigidly enforce the 1-card-per-customer rule. OfficeMax/Office Depot, on the other hand, usually has a plentiful supply and often bend the 1-card rule. I DETEST Staples….

    • I have actually asked them to check inside before (for 3rd party cards). I have more uptight people at my OD. I think it all depends on the store manager.

  2. Hey Mark, my husband has chase business ink card and using that for gift card purchases but not grtt8mh 1k points in each $200 visa gift card. He only getting 2 points. I thought it worked on all ink cards.

    • Only the Chase Ink Cash or Chase Ink Plus earn 5X at office stores. The Ink Preferred only earns 1X on those purchases 🙁
