Staples Visa Gift Card Rebate Deal

Staples is generally good about advertising their gift card deals in their weekly ad, but apparently they are being a little bit sneaky this week. On their rebate website (Rebate ID: 17-16506) they have a gem waiting to be discovered.

The Deal

  • Get a $15 Staples Easy Rebates Visa gift card on a Purchase of $300 or more of Visa Gift Cards.

Key Terms

  • Deal valid from 6/18/17 through 6/24/17
  • In-store only.
  • Limit 1 rebate per household.

Maximizing the Deal

This deal is usually best maximized by using a card that earns 5X at office supply stores like the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash. You can also use an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores.

Using the Chase Ink, the optimal strategy is to purchase 2 of the $200 cards which cost $206.95 each. Here is the math:

  • Cost: $413.90
  • Minus Rebate: $15
  • Final Cost: -$1.10
  • UR Points Earned: 2,070

You could also purchase a $200 card and a $100 card, but the savings of $1 on fees doesn’t justify the loss of 500 Ultimate Rewards points on the extra $100 in spend.

While their $20 rebates are bit nicer math wise, this is a decent deal if you have a 5X earning card and are nearby one of their stores. Between this deal and the Vons/Albertson’s/Safeway discount, you should be able to make a few bucks and earn some nice rewards at a negative cost!

      • shawn. we are still waiting for your private label co-brand UR credit card.

heard rumors about $250 AF per quarter but with 5x for any spend. sounds too ridiculous to me. is it true?
