Staples Visa Gift Card Promotion Fee Free

Next week Staples is bringing back their very very very popular (at least in my house) fee-free Visa gift card promotion. Let’s take a look at the details.

The Offer

  • No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Visa® Gift Card

Key Terms

  • Valid 11/11/18–11/17/18.
  • In-store only
  • Limit 1 per customer. (This may be enforced differently depending on the store.)

You can find the full terms on page 7 of the Staples weekly ad.

Maximizing This Deal

While the terms list a limit of 1 discounted purchase fee per transaction, you may (no guarantee) be able to purchase multiple cards in the same or separate transactions based on my previous experience. Staples does tend to limit customers to $2K in gift card purchases per day overall either way.

Cards like the Chase Ink PlusInk Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. You may also be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.

Stay away from American Express Cards with the 10% Amex Offers if you have earned $100 in credits already.

Liquidating Visa Gift Card

The Visa gift card is pin-enabled. The PIN number is usually the last four digits of the card number. For more information on cashing out these types of cards, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards.

Conclusion

I am so happy that Staples has moved away from their much more rigid mail in-rebate promotions on Visa gift cards. These no-fee promotions are much more attractive since you don’t have to deal with paperwork, plus you can often buy more cards over the course of the promo.
