Surprised By Tulsa & Why I Love Visiting New Places

Tulsa Is Fun

I love discovering a new city. When people think of Tulsa I am not sure what comes to mind, but I just had a great night in the city. As I mentioned before, I am working towards completing the Hyatt Diamond Challenge while currently on a roller coaster road trip.

Yesterday my friend & I visited Branson and their amazing park Silver Dollar City. Today we are on our way to Oklahoma City and their small Frontier City amusement park, hence the stop in Tulsa.

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa which has a great location in downtown. While I will review the property later, I can say that it is nice, but a little dated. In some areas the hotel has clearly been renovated, but in others it still looks like something from decades past. My room has lime green walls for example.

Don’t take my complaints out of context. This hotel is only a Category 1, meaning it is 5,000 points per night which is a bargain. One of the best features of the hotel is its location. Just two blocks away is a fantastic area called the Blue Dome District.

Other Cities Are Fun Too

After a long day of roller coaster riding, we headed over there to relax and people watch. With country music blazing we watched a great mix of customers do everything from dance to play beer pong. It was a great time and the place had a great vibe.

This reminds me that fun and interesting things can be found everywhere. There are so many places in the world that I think will be boring and thus don’t want to go. Last night reminds me that there are unique and interesting things to do just about everywhere.

Last night obviously had to do with adult fun, but I think of the tens of thousands of miles I have driven through the U.S. and all of the neat family things we have found. From Cadillac Ranch in Texas to so so many other places, I have been surprised and amazed way too many times to count. So many great things to see. (I am sure there are many in Tulsa, although I will have to return to find them!)

I am grateful to be on the road today and grateful of the reminders that life is everywhere. There are interesting places and people everywhere. We just have to be open to finding these people/things and they will come.

What city(s) have you traveled to that really surprised you? Let me know below and enjoy your extra day off! Summer is over. =(

  1. Just had a great long weekend trip to Milwaukee, for many things, including amazing art museum designed by Calatrava, and Racine Wisconsin(for the Frank Lloyd Wright).
