Target REDcard 10% Bonus Offer

Target REDcard 10% Bonus Offer

Oh how I miss my beloved REDbird. She was so generous with her credit card loads and easy to use bill pay system. She even gave us a good year of fun before shriveling up and dying. Now you can’t even load her in a store with cash. How the mighty have fallen.

REDcard Benefits

While REDbird is dead, Target still does have a debit card called Debit REDcard. This card comes with the following features/benefits:

  • Save 5% at Target and Target.com
  • Free Shipping on most items at Target.com
  • Extended Return Policy
  • REDcard online management
  • Up to $40 cash withdrawal at checkout in store
  • Links to your existing checking account for Target purchases

I personally have a Debit REDcard because I value the 5% off and don’t want to incur a hard credit pull to get the Credit REDcard which has the same benefits, but doesn’t require a link to your checking account. While I would normally recommend the Debit product anyways, Target is upping the ante with a new special offer.

The Offer:

Now through May 20th, when you open a debit or credit REDcard, Target will send you a coupon for an extra 10% off a shopping trip!

Analysis

As I said before, I do have the Debit REDCard because I don’t want to deal with a hard pull for the credit card (I can confirm they didn’t do a hard pull for my Debit card and I have never heard of them doing a hard pull for this product), but I still want the 5% off.

If you are a big shopper, then getting that extra 10% off one (hopefully big) shopping trip might be a nice incentive to get this card now. There are a few exclusions, but not too many and I can’t find a cap on the 10% off either.

Conclusion

This isn’t the deal of the century, but if you were already considering a Target REDcard product for the everyday 5% savings, then now may be the time to get one. With an unlimited cap and few restrictions, that 10% off coupon can be worth a nice chunk of change.

    • Not at my 3 closest stores at least. I was trying to load it to side load a Serve card but a software update had removed the option from the register. I even asked a manager at each store and they confirmed it.

      • sup brotha. here is a DP for you.

to verify your experience, i went to 2 locations around the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in honor of your visits and trip reports from that area. haha.

everything went fine with the cash reloads. the only the real problem is that they needed to call a supervisor since nobody ever heard of cash reloads and didnt know how to process it. not surprising given RedBird is dead and cash loads have niche use.

so it must be a phased software update. that would really suck. i guess for now, its location specific and YMMV, until the update. i dont understand why they removed the option. maybe nobody ever used it? or maybe they had issues with cash related transactions?

for now, it seems local and i hope you can still find a target location without the update to load your cash if thats something important to your MS strategy.

        take care man!
