While neither the debit nor the credit REDcard normally offer any sort of bonus, Target is now offering a little nugget for getting either of these cards. Let’s take a look.

Conclusion

I personally have the REDcard debit card and use it occasionally for the 5% discount. The debit card doesn’t require a hard pull, but the credit card does so I would take that into consideration. For those who shop at Target often, the 5% savings can definitely be worth it and it’s also nice to get that $25 discount instead of the usual nothing.

  1. Receives the debit card and no coupon or code. Called 3 times and kept referring to SD. I did receive a $35 off $100 Target coupon that expired 7/31/18. Anyhow, purchased a Blu ray player that was on sale and the extend warranty brought the price over $100. I used my Target CC and plan to use the debit card once annually.

  2. That is the thing. Target sales it as a debit card like the bank’s debit. But instead of a POS (point of sale) purchase with a normal debit card nearly the same day, it is ACH transaction like paying with an check the reason behind the 5 day delay. But for anyone deciding on any financial product, I would check several review websites before deciding. Also 5% can be gone with one bad transaction. Thanks Shawn for allowing my opinion on this product.

  3. The Redcard debit is not good. I recommend to all to steer away from it. First it is not really a debit card like your bank. It usually takes upwards to five days before it withdrawals money from your checking account. If you don’t have the money in your account you can get charged with 37 dollar fees for insufficient funds by Target plus an insufficient fund charge from your bank. So say you bought a kitkat bar from Target for 1.25. Then you get charged 37 dollars for insufficient funds from Target plus say 27 dollars from your bank. So now kitkat cost you 65.25 dollars, but Target will try every two weeks to get there 1.25 for three times in a role so now you are looking at a kitkat bar at 180 dollars. Also, you only get this statement for insufficient funds a month after it happens. I seen and heard worse then my example. The Credit Card “maybe” ok but the debit card is not worth it. if you are person that has large balances in the bank then maybe the debit, but not all that good i think.

    • In the 10+ years I’ve had a red card this has never been an issue. Of course, I know I use my red card and keep it attached to my primary checking account so there’s always plenty of cash sitting there. 5% in every Target purchase has sure added up over the years
