The Residenza degli Angeli is a small bed & breakfast located in a residential area of Venice about five minutes from the Rialto Bridge. While to location is not exactly in the heart of the action, it is very quiet and lovely. We stayed for there for two night in February, 2013 and enjoyed our time there. Here is a brief review.
When I began looking for accommodation in Venice, I used many of my old tricks on trying to secure the best rate. Eventually I found this bed and breakfast through a travel website for 50 euro. Next, I did a simple Google search and found that they had their own website with an email. After several back and forth discussions, the owners agreed to give us the room for 40 Euro and upgraded us from a shared bathroom to a private one. Contacting them directly turned out to be quite useful.
The place itself consists of a small area inside the main door with two tables where breakfast is served and a staircase that leads up to the guest rooms. While the coffee and tea at breakfast were appreciated, the pastries that were served were not to my liking. With that said, everything else was delightful. The owners were very helpful and friendly every time we came and went. They went out of their way to offer help and you could tell they took a lot of pride in their establishment.
I also want to talk about their pickup service. After letting them know when you will be arriving, the owners will pick you up at the nearest vaporetto (water taxi) stop. For us, the water taxi was too expensive, so we simply walked from the train station for about thirty minutes to a public square nearby. At that point we called from a payphone as instructed and the owner was there in ten minutes to escort us. I cannot say helpful this was to us and it made what could have been a stressful night time arrival much easier.
The last thing I would like to talk about is the room. Our room was considered a “triple” which means that it had a large “double” bed for Jasmine and I to sleep on and a small “single” bed for Shawn Reece. The room itself was large and the furnishings were perfectly Venetian. While the bathroom was rather small, everything worked well and we had sufficient hot water. For 40 Euros per night, even in the off season, this was a deal! For more information about Residenza degli Angeli visit their website where you can contact the owners directly or ask me anything in the comments section!
