Visa & Mastercard Gift Card Rebate Deal

Staples Visa & Mastercard Gift Card Rebate Deal

Staples will have another negative cost Visa and Mastercard gift card deal coming next week. On top of that you can also generate 5X UR points as well. Let’s take a look!

  • In-store only.
  • Limit 1 rebate per name/address/household.

Maximizing the Deal

Staples Gift Card Deal

This deal is usually best maximized by using a card that earns 5X at office supply stores like the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash. You can also use an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores.

Using the Chase Ink, the optimal strategy is to purchase 2 of the $200 cards which cost $206.95 each. Here is the math:

  • Cost: $413.90
  • Minus Rebate: $15 (worth $12.45 on resale market)
  • Final Cost: -$1.10
  • UR Points Earned: 2,070

You could also purchase a $200 card and a $100 card, but the savings of $1 on fees doesn’t justify the loss of 500 Ultimate Rewards points on the extra $100 in spend.

This is not the best offer from Staples since the rebate comes in the form of a Staples gift card, but these are still nice deals if you have a Staples nearby. Stock tends to run out quickly, especially for the $200 Visa GC denominations, so I wouldn’t go far out of the way to get the cards later in the week. Also get the Visa GCs before the the Mastercard version since they are easier to deal with and have less theft issues.

This is a good way to pickup a chunk of points and a few dollars too. If you have some friends, parents or neighbors that won’t mind you using their address, you can get some extra rebates.

During the same deal that ended last week, there were some issues with rebates not printing out, but hopefully it will go more smoothly this time around.
