Vizio Agrees to Pay $17M After Data-Tracking Class Action Lawsuit

If you have a purchases a Vizio TV in the last few years then you could be owed some money. The company has been accused of secretly recording and selling information about viewers’ watching habits. Now they have agreed to settle the class action lawsuit and pay $17 million to those affected.

Class Members can expect to receive between $13 and $31 under the terms of the Vizio data-tracking TV class action settlement agreement depending on the number of valid claims submitted. The final decision must be still approved.

Class Members, according to the motion for preliminary approval of the Vizio data-tracking TV class action settlement, include a nationwide Class of consumers who purchased a Vizio smart TV between Feb. 1, 2014 and Feb. 6, 2017.

Vizio has also agreed to update information provided to smart TV owners regarding the collection of viewing information and how the company will sell or share that data. Further, data collected between Feb. 1, 2014 and Feb. 6, 2017, will be deleted.

Conclusion

If you have purchased a Vizio TV set from 2014 to 2017, keep an eye out for this Vizio settlement. You could get as much as $31 per each TV you have purchased. Maybe not all models will be included. The exact details should be revealed when the settlement is approved.

  1. Took longer to reach this point than my Vizio TV lasted. I bought a new 65 inch vizio in 2015 and it stopped working in early 2018.
