World of Hyatt Category Changes 2020

World of Hyatt Category Changes have been been announced today. This is an annual tradition for hotel chains, as the categories are adjusted for some of their properties to better reflect the value you you should expect. More changes are coming later this year as World of Hyatt introduces off-peak and peak redemptions in March.

Category Changes

The annual award chart updates will take effect on March 22. No new Categories have been added, and the points required for each Category will remain the same.

  • When you book before March 22, your reservations will follow the current free night award chart found here.
  • Reservations made on or after March 22 will follow the new free night award chart and incorporate the updates noted below
  • Existing reservations for nights on or after March 22 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category

In 2020, a total of 217 hotels will move into a different categories. More changes are in the wrong directions, with hotels getting more expensive. But it is still an acceptable balance, unlike Marriott Bonvoy’s changes. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 117 hotels are moving to a higher category
  • 100 hotels are moving to a lower category

Conclusion

These World of Hyatt category changes don’t seem too bad. But that of course depends on whether your favorite properties are affected. If a property is set to increase in price, make sure you book now. If you book a property now and it decreases in price, then you will be refunded the points difference.

  1. It should be “Its” – no apostrophe – in the post title, since the word is being used as a possessive, not a contraction of “it is”.
