American Express Open DIRECTV Offer – $100 Free

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my recent move and how DIRECTV basically gave me 6 free months of service. I suppose that wasn’t enough since a new deal has surfaced which is going to give me another six months for free!

Last week Frequent Miler wrote about an American Express business card deal where cardholders can get a $100 credit for paying $100 towards their DIRECTV bill. While the deal is meant for new business customers, it seems to work for anyone paying a DIRECTV bill.

After reading Greg’s post, I headed right over to the registration page and made to sure link all of my Amex business cards to the offer before using one of them to pay $100 towards my DIRECTV bill.

Thankfully I can now report back that this definitely does work. Existing DIRECTV customers can pay their personal bill with a registered Amex business card and get a $100 credit. Nothing like free money!

The credit automatically posted two days after the charge.

To learn more about the offer and for suggestions about how to maximize, I highly suggest heading over to the original post.

Conclusion

This is just another example of how American Express is adding significant value to their cards through partner promotions. Since I have three American Express business cards, I will save a total of $300 towards my television bill. After the deal they cut me when I moved, that is like getting 1 year of television for free!

    • I just checked and the credit is still there. I have heard reports of it happening to other people, but mine has been posted for a couple of weeks, so maybe they are only doing it to more recent payments.

  1. I made a $100 payment with AMEX Business card online on 01/20 and a credit of $100 posted as credit on 1/22 but got a call this morning from DirectTV just now telling me there was a reversal on the account of $100. I logged in, and my account has a balance of $100.00. Anyone else have this happen in DirectTV account?

      • Also, when you say the credit posted 2 days later, are you sure it wasn’t just the reversal? That’s what happened to me, although I also thought it was the credit until I got the same phone call. When you get a statement credit for something like this it usually has that weird symbol on the line with stars and such. I realize now this didn’t have that.

  2. I have an AmEx Corporate card. What do I need to look for to ensure that I indeed can benefit from the credit. Is it specific AmEx Business card holders? Does a Corporate card work?

  3. Anything particular about Direct TV that would prevent me from paying my friend’s bill like I did with AT&T (wish I could benefit from one of these kinds of deals!).

  4. Thanks for the posting! Will I get $100 credit if my DirectTV account was setup with auto pay and the payment amount is more than $100? Thanks in advance.

    • My DIRECTV account is on auto pay, but I went in and made a manual payment from the Amex business card since I don’t normally use it to pay my DIRECTV bill. If you pay $100 or more on a registered card, then you should get the $100 credit whether it is autopay or a manual payment.

      • Thanks Shawn! Other questions:
        1. Did you have to change your auto payment credit card to a registered AMX card before making this manual payment?
        2. My account balance is $0, can I use the registered Amex card to prepay $100?

        • No I just added the Amex to make the payment. I didn’t change the auto payment settings.

My balance was at $0 and I was able to make the $100 payment to bring me to a $-100 balance.
