Chase Sending Out Spending Offers for Several Cards

Chase Sending Out Spending Offers for Several Cards

Chase has been sending out spending offers on a few different cards today that are not all that great. Now if you were spending on one of these cards anyway that is one thing, but I don’t see these enticing many people to spend on the cards.

Details on the Offers

Chase Sending Out Spending Offers for Several Cards

Hyatt and Southwest Cards

Cardholders have been sent what is essentially the same offer for both cards:

  • Get 500 points for every purchase over $1000 from 1/15/18 till 3/31/18.
  • You have to activate the offer before March 31, 2018 to get the bonus points
  • Must be $1000 in one purchase, not cumulative
  • You can earn up to 8 bonuses during this time frame for a total of 4,000 points

This is a terrible deal because it is essentially earning 1.5 points per dollar if you spend EXACTLY $1000.  You get nothing for less than that and the points per dollar ratio decreases the further you go over the $1000 mark.  So you can essentially earn the same rate as a Freedom Unlimited…yawn.

British Airways Card

The terms are as follows:

  • Offer runs from 1/15/18 till 3/31/18
  • You must register your card in the promotion first
  • Spend $7500 during that time frame to earn an 7,500 Avios bonus
  • Bonus is in addition to the regular points you would earn with the card

This offer is at least 2 miles per dollar, versus 1.5 with the other offer. That is if you earn the bonus but $7,500 is an outrageous number.  That same spend could get you two sign up bonuses worth over 10 times that many points!

Conclusion

If you were going to put this kind of spend on these cards anyway then it will be beneficial to you.  I imagine those people are few and far between.

Is 2018 going to be the year of terrible spending offers?  The banks’ coffers are pretty full right now so it looks like they are going to hold the points close to their chest for the time being.  Hopefully some better offers come down the pipeline in the future!

  1. I’ll take the 2,500 AA miles for $2,500 spend on Citi offer ANY day over these! Especially when adding an AU on a business card has little effect on them earning good future offers.

Just the way it is these days…gotta cull thru what’s available in the current marketplace rather than repeatedly comparing to the past & holding out.
