Traveling With Pets – A Complete Resource
I am heading up to my dad’s house in Northern California for Christmas. The drive from my house in Las Vegas to his runs about 11 hours. It isn’t the worst drive in the world, but it consists mostly of farmland and tends to drag.
This year we considered flying up, however we are bringing our dog which complicates things. While doing some research, I found a couple of great pet related travel sites, so I thought I would share.
BringFido Is A One Stop Shop
BringFido is a travel website for pet lovers who want to bring their furry friends along with them on trips. Not only do they have the pet policies for just about every airline, they also have a plethora of other pet related travel information.
You can find everything from pet friendly attractions to dog parks in the areas that you will be traveling to. Of course they also have listings for thousands of pet friendly hotels, motels and campgrounds. In other words, this is the place to look if you are considering traveling with a pet.
A New Service For Leaving Your Dog Behind
If you ultimately decide not to bring your dog along, there is a new service called DogVacay which is sort of like Airbnb for dogs. Instead of leaving your dog at a kennel during your trip, you can leave them with a normal person in their home. The site allows you to read reviews of the hosts and you can sort by neighborhood and price.
In my opinion the great thing about the service is that it includes free pet insurance and daily photo updates. If you are interested, you can get $10 free through this link. (I don’t get anything as far as I know.) While I haven’t yet used DogVacay, I plan to soon.
In the end we decided to drive up to my dad’s house since it will be cheaper and will also allow us to take a side trip to San Francisco. While Fiona will stay with my dad when we head to the city, I am glad a site like BringFido exists for the times we need to bring her along and DogVacay exists for the times when no one is able to watch her.
Do you bring your pets along while traveling? If not, who watches them when you are on the road? Let me know in the comments!
