Alaska Airlines to Join Oneworld Alliance

Alaska Airlines is considering joining the Oneworld alliance. Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Harrison told analysts in New York City during the company’s annual Investor Day that Alaska Air is looking at joining Oneworld as a “connect” member. Oneworld Connect is a second tier membership that gives customers with some, but not all benefits provided through the alliance. Fiji Airways is currently the only Oneworld Connect member.

“There’s a Oneworld Connect membership that we’re looking it,” chief commercial officer Andrew Harrison told analysts. “The whole goal here is to ensure that when people in the cities we serve travel internationally they are on our partners so they stay in our program.”

In addition to joining the alliance as a ‘Connect’ member, Alaska also plans to sell tickets for some of its global partner airline on its website. So you soon might be able to buy a Qantas fare on alaskaair.com.

Alaska is among the only larger North American airlines not tied to one of the three major global alliances. Becoming a Oneworld Connect member should help Alaska compete internationally, but also right at home as it gives it an edge over Southwest.

Oneworld member airlines include American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and more.

  1. OK – so maybe all you guys are experts but I would not have had any idea what it was about if he had said “Oneworld Connect” in the heading.

  2. MilestoMemories, i love your site (and have you bookmarked on my favorites) but the rate at which clickbaity articles/headlines are being written is alarming and increasing!

  3. Agree with everyone else–very misleading headline. Considering Oneworld Connect is very different than joining Oneworld Alliance.
