American Express Cuts Perks for Business Platinum Card

American Express is making some negative changes to its popular Business Platinum credit card. Starting next year, they are removing four benefits from the card, some of them quite useful. Let’s see what’s changing.

Just a reminder that these perks go away soon so be sure to use what you can.  And lock up your year of WeWork before December 31st!

Amex Business Platinum Card Benefits

The benefits that are going away are:

  • Gogo inflight WiFi passes – The benefit is going away on 1/1/2020. You can register and use the passes until 12/31/2019, but any remaining passes after that will be removed from your Gogo account.
  • Boingo worldwide Wi-Fi hotspots – Effective 1/1/2020, this will no longer be a benefit on the card.
  • WeWork Global Access – You will not be able to enroll for this after 12/31/2019. If you do enroll before then, you will get 12 months access from the enrollment date.
  • Premium roadside assistance – Effective 1/1/2020, this will no longer be a benefit on the card.

100K Offer

Currently the Amex Business Platinum Card has a great welcome offer. Here are the details for the limited time offer which is good until 12/4/19:

  • Earn 50,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $10,000
    • Earn an extra 50,000 points after you spend an additional $15,000 all on qualifying purchases within your first 3 months of Card Membership.
  • The $595 annual fee is NOT waived

Some people are also seeing a 110K bonus. Plus you can also use referrals from a friend.

Conclusion

Gogo and Boingo were two great perks that came with the card, especially for frequent travelers who wanted to stay connected on the road. WeWork Global Access is also an expensive perks that would save you a lot of money if you needed it. Then there’s the premium roadside assistance which is always a good thing to have.

Often we see credit card issuers adding perks to card, and increasing the annual fee. This time Amex is removing benefits, but I doubt the fee will be decreased. With a good signup bonus the card is still very much worth it in my opinion, but it sill hurts to lose benefits.

  1. The Boingo thing is nuts because the card is so pricey. So its a few bucks out of their pocket. I know We work would be a one year thing only

  2. Lol didn’t use any of these anyways. I needed a tow once where there was only one tow truck company in the area. The amex tow service people pissed the guy off so much. He almost didn’t come and get me when I just paid him myself. So I don’t really see that as losing a benifit ha ha. Wish they would add some other stuff considering that annual fee
