Museums on Us 2015
During the first weekend of every month, Bank of America credit and debit cardholders are able to get into select museums around the country for free. The program is called Museums on Us and I think it is probably one of the coolest unknown perks around.
I wrote in detail about the program back in January including the terms and which dates and museums are available. Since this Saturday and Sunday will be free museum days (August 1&2), I thought I would just poke around the country to find some of the cooler sounding places that perhaps I might want to try to visit.
Note: You need a valid Bank of America or Merrill Lynch debit or credit card to receive free museum admission. While I love the perks of this program, I don’t believe anyone should go out of their way to get a card just for Museums on Us. If you already have an account with Bank of America, then this is just another added benefit.
2015 Museums on Us Dates
Before we go further, here is a reminder of which dates Museums on Us is running in 2015.
One of the neatest things about Museums on Us is finding places that aren’t traditional museums. Of course there are the standard art and history museums around the country, but here are a few more interesting places that you can get into for free. You can find the full list of available museums here.
Las Vegas Springs Preserve – Las Vegas, NV
The first cool museum is right in my backyard. The Las Vegas Springs Preserve is built on the very springs that brought the train to Vegas which led to the start of the crazy city that you know and love today. With nature trails and exhibits like a simulated flash flood, it really is a neat place to visit. Of course this time of year things tend to be hot.
$18.95 Free this weekend
Denver Zoo – Denver, CO
This is another great family option and one I wouldn’t mind taking advantage of. The kids probably don’t want to go to another history museum, but who doesn’t love zoos? The Denver Zoo actually looks really large and seems to have the requisite collection of lions and tigers and bears. Oh my!
$17.00 Free this weekend
Union Station’s Science City – Kansas City, MO
Once again, as you can tell I look for the funner types of museums. To be honest though, the fact that this is a science museum isn’t what caught my eye. It is housed in Kansas City’s historic Union Station, which sounds like an amazing venue. After sitting abandoned in the 1980’s, it was rehabbed with a number of attractions including this one! The museum has a number of cool exhibits including a bike that you ride on a wire high above the ground!
$13.50 Free this weekend
Every time this promotion comes along I like to look around and see some of the cool places I should plan to visit. I know the Museums on Us program only saves $10-$20 per person, but it has become a way for me to discover really cool places!
What neat museums have you visited for free courtesy of Bank of America?
