Priority Pass Added Lufthansa Lounge At DTW

Priority Pass Added Lufthansa Lounge At DTW Airport

Great news my fellow Detroit flyers DTW finally has a Priority Pass lounge (you can read my full review here).  Priority Pass added the Lufthansa Business Lounge at DTW airport.  It is located in the North Terminal which previous had no options to frequent flyers.  The McNamara Terminal always had Delta lounges for Delta flyers but nothing was available to Southwest, most United passengers, American Airlines etc. flyers out of the North Terminal.  That all changed today.

Lounge Details

The lounge is located in the North Terminal next to gate D8.  The lounge previously only handled Lufthansa’s once per day direct flight to Frankfurt.  Now it will be open to everyone with a Priority Pass membership. They are not allowing PP members in during 13:00 and 16:00 daily.  That coincides with the daily flight to Frankfurt.

The hours of the lounge are as follows:

  • 5:00-18:30 Monday-Saturday
  • 11:00-18:30 Sunday

Children under 2 get in free and there is a maximum visit of 3 hours.

Conclusion

While Detroit has one of the more relaxed airport terminals in the country it is still nice to see them finally get a lounge option at the North Terminal.  Blocking the lounge everyday from 1-4pm isn’t the best but it is understandable since they don’t want to bother their actual passengers.  It was a lounge that was wildly underused since it was there for one flight per day. This works out well for them and for Priority Pass cardholders.

I may end up flying Southwest a lot more often with this addition.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

  1. “nothing was available to United flyers”
This isn’t really true. The Lufthansa lounge in question (at least one side of it) has accepted United Club memberships for quite some time. I’ve used it at least 3 times DTW-IAH. It’s not fancy or huge but the food and bev is good. Good news if you have PP but not a Club membership, though.

  2. No more waiting in the mile long line in the terminal at McDonald’s with the kids before boarding a flight!
    Thanks for the post Mark:-)

  3. I was there a year ago when I flew Lufthansa, not very impressed. It ‘s better than no lounge, but it will only be useful to the non skyteam passengers. Moving from North terminal to any gate in the McNamara terminal would take around 60 minutes including security. Plus I’m not sure you could get access to that lounge without a North terminal ticket.

    • I agree not worth visiting if you are in the McNamara terminal. Hopefully you have Delta lounge access from the Platinum card if you are there.

  4. Visited yesterday. It was small in terms of size but the staff was polite and on top of things. Food was good and they served a nice French white, Louis Jadot. Overall a pleasant experience and probably saved at least $30 in terminal purchases.

  5. As one who flies AA in and out of DTW all the time, this is excellent news. I will utilize it frequently, especially since I do not fly during the restricted hours usually.

  6. Finally they add an actual lounge that’s not just a crowded restaurant. Good add I think. This also might help monetize this a bit for Lufthansa.
