Two New Visa Gift Card Deals at Safeway/Vons

Safeway, Vons and other affiliated stores have two new coupons available that can get you a discount on Visa gift cards. The discount is instant.

The Offers

  • Get $15 OFF when you purchase TWO $100 cards. Limit 1 per transaction. Exp 6/30/2018.
  • Get $10 OFF when you purchase TWO $50 cards. Limit 1 per transaction. Exp 6/30/2018.

Loading the Offer

These offers come in the form of a digital coupon that needs to be loaded to your account. Once you load the offer, the $10 or $15 discount should come off automatically when you complete a qualifying purchase.

The coupon is limited to one-time use only per account. The bad part is that you need to purchase two gift cards to trigger the offer, so you need to pay two activation fees. The discount should take care of it though, at least with two $100 Visa gift cards.

Make sure to use the right credit card to maximize your rewards. Amex Blue Cash Preferred will give you 6% at grocery stores and  you can also get 5% with Amex Old Blue Cash. This quarter there’s even more options to earn 5%.

  1. So, you pay 2 X $6.95 activation fees = $13.90 and get back $15.00, or a net gain of $1.10. I’m not quite sure what the advantage is, once you factor in the time commitment, cost of gas driving to Safeway, waiting in lines, etc. Maybe help meet min spend on a new cc?

    • $5.95 per card. As answered below, you get CC points with the right card and fuel points. I got 400 fuel points worth at least $4. Their last deal was better since it required a variable card and one could buy $500, this one nets a lower profit.
With an Amex Blue, you could net a return over 10%

  2. You also get the cc rebate of at least 5% or $10.70 plus the gas discount worth 20 cents per gallon at Sunoco. I use these cards to pay local service providers like doctors, dentists, utilities, etc. Of course, you do have to factor in the cost of driving and the time itself. But, if you shop there anyway….
