American Express Offering Some Businesses a Second Platinum Card

The American Express Business Platinum card has a lots of perks and benefits. It also comes with a huge bonus usually. But, as all other American Express credit cards, you can only receive a signup bonus once per lifetime.

Now American Express is targeting some people who already have a Business Platinum Card, with an offer to apply for a second one. American Express has sent out a physical offer for 75,000 points. Here’s what the bonus looks like:

  • Earn 50,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $10,000 within three months
  • Earn an additional 25,000 points after you spend an additional $10,000 within three months

The offer is valid until 3/16/2020.

The offer doesn’t have a lifetime restriction, as expected. So the businesses who are targeted, can apply for the second card and receive the bonus again.

Conclusion

This is an interesting offer from American Express. I don’t think I have ever seen this in the past, where they explicitly offer the bonus for a second time to a person or business. But these type of offers that do not have a lifetime restriction are not that rare. They pop up here and there for a wide variety of Amex cards.

  1. Got the offer in the mail. Had my original Biz Plat for about a year. I agree with the earlier poster about having to pay two $595 annual fees, and having to spend $20k to get the 75k MR, is not worth it for me.

  2. My wife received a postcard last year from AMEX which had 2 offers for a Delta Gold and Platinum credit card. There was no language in the terms and conditions about previously having the cards (she had both). I called the phone # listed on the card and asked if she was indeed eligible for the offer. The agent asked me to read the code at the bottom of the postcard and after verifying the code said that it was covered/no language and she could apply for both if she wished.
With my assistance, the agent took her information and she was instantly approved for the Gold offer. Than he asked me if I wanted to apply using the same code. I told him I previously had the card but he said that didn’t matter and I signed up for a new Delta Gold card. After we both received our bonus, we filled out the offer for the Platinum cards and were approved for them. If I remember correctly, one card was 70K and the other was 60K. Those were some pretty sweet offers.
When I came home last night, there was an AMEX offer for the Platinum Business card (no language for previously having the card)but I’m going to decline applying for this card because the AF has become too expensive for my blood and the benefits just don’t add up for me. I currently hold the Ameriprise version of the card and will also cancel this once my AF posts in January.

  3. Both my wife and I received these offers in the physical mail today. She currently has the Amex Biz Platinum and I’ve had it in the past – probably a couple of years ago.
