$55 Free & Uber Vegas
I am a Las Vegas local and have followed the Uber launch here in Nevada pretty carefully. Within 24 hours of their launch, the local taxicab authority cracked down on the company, alleging them of operating illegally.
Since then the battle has gone to court, without any resolution. While the state is seeking an injunction against Uber, the decision has been postponed a couple of times and the company continues to operate.
My Uber Vegas Experience
A couple of days ago I flew back home and decided to give Uber Vegas a try. Since they don’t pick up at the airport, I took the free shuttle to the Rental Car Center (which is about 3 miles closer to my house than the airport anyway) and called a car from the street.
When I went to call the car, it showed four drivers in my area. After requesting the car, it took four minutes for my driver to appear. The rest of the trip went exactly as I would expect.
During the drive I asked the driver about his experiences with Uber. He has been driving since the Uber Vegas launch and says that business is extremely slow. Right now they cannot pick up at the airport or on the Strip, which makes it difficult to find passengers.
My Uber Vegas experience was very good and the trip cost about 2/3 of what a taxi would have cost from the same location. Actually it cost less considering that Vegas taxi drivers expect tips, whereas Uber drivers don’t.
Free $30 from Uber
For the past few months Uber has been offering $30 off of you first ride when registering. That offer is ending on 11/23/2014 according to the company. To get it, simply click this link and sign up. In the past, the offer has only been for $10, however I don’t know for sure what it will fall too. (Links to Uber in this post are personal affiliate links. I receive up to $30 credit after you successfully complete your first ride.)
$25 More Free Money
Uber is also having a promotion in Las Vegas. You can earn an additional $25 off of a ride between now and November 28, 2014 by entering the promo code FEEDVEGAS. So you can get $30 off of your first ride if you are not in Vegas or $55 off if you are a local here.
Additionally, Uber Vegas is donating $1 per ride to Three Square, which is an amazing local charity that helps to feed hungry children. So you can save money and support a great cause.
In the end, if you have been considering whether or not to sign up for Uber, I highly recommend giving it a try before the bonus goes down in a couple of days. I have always found Uber’s service to be safe, affordable and fast. If you live in Vegas, don’t forget to claim your extra $25 as well!
