Alaska Mileage Plan Members Save on Emirates Flights

I received an email from Alaska yesterday offering a discount on Emirates flights for Alaska Mileage plan members.  It looks like Alaska and Emirates have partnered up to offer members who book through the Emirates website using the promo code, a variable discount. This is similar to the Emirates and Amex partnership offering good discounts on cash flights.

I’m not able to find an official promo page or flight restrictions, so unfortunately you’ll have to play around with flight searches to see what the code applies to. I was able to confirm that it works if you find an applicable route. Also, it seems odd that the discount is $250 and $500 on Biz flights, that may be a typo.

Details

  • Tickets must be purchased before December 31, 2018
  • Use the promotional code USALSKA at checkout.
  • The promotion offers savings of
    • $50 in economy class
    • $250 in business class and
    • $500 in business class for each passenger who books using the promotional code
  • The discount will be taken off the base fare only via emirates.com/us and does not apply to government taxes, fees, carrier charges and surcharges.
  • The maximum number of passengers per booking using the code is nine.

Conclusion

If paying for flights is your thing and you were going to pay anyway you might as well save a little bit on the purchase. Make sure to maximize your credit card rewards. Use Amex Platinum that offers 5x MR on airfare, Chase Sapphire Reserve for 3x UR on travel, or Citi Prestige for 5x TYP on airfare.  See if you are targeted for the 100K Platinum welcome offer.

  1. I have flown Emirates (LAX-SGN) in F and J. Top-shelf airline. The layover (exceeding 12 hours) in Dubai also provided for a free night and dinner at Le Meridien and limo from terminal to hotel and hotel to terminal the next morning. The key to the free hotel is the layover must EXCEED 12 hours. We’re flying them again (HKT-LAX) this Spring.

A discount on Emirates Business of $500 per passenger is really mouse nuts, when you see what the one-way fare is at Emirates. If you really want to fly in Emirates J, just buy your miles on Alaska Air MileagPlan, where you find plenty of “J” fare availability (both short and long layovers in Dubai). Right now, but only for 3 more days, you can buy 210,000 miles, 2 X 105,000, (in three increments) for less than $4,200. Compare that to twice the fare you’ll find at Emirates. Quite a deal and the only way to fly Emirates IMO, especially if you’re doing really, really long-haul like LAX to SGN or SIN or HKG. Done “F” as well for 360,000 miles. That works out to a few bucks over $7,200 but discounted full fare works out to a few bucks under $40,000 but includes the overnight stay as well 🙂

  2. Rick, we are slated for the free overnight with a ~9 hour 40 min layover in DXB next Summer. Alas “only” flying in biz not F

    • Paul, that’s great. The policy was min. 12-hour layover when we flew out of LAX around 4:30 pm. Arrived DXB 7:30 pm and we flew out at 9:30 am. (14-hour layover). I would still double-check anything under 12 hours, as all the airlines seem to be getting stingy, just like the hotels. There’s some sort of certificate involved as I recall along with check-in at DXB desk for hotel confirmation and car. Cheers!
