Discover’s 4th quarter bonus categories are now available for registration. This upcoming quarter you can earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Amazon.com and Wholesale Clubs. These categories should be super easy to maximize!
How It Works
The Discover it card earns 5% cashback on up to the first $1,500 in bonus category spend per quarter. If you are able to fully maximize the benefit then you can earn $75 cash back every 3 months.
Activate
You have to activate the bonus before making your purchases in order to get the 5% back. The 4th quarter bonus categories can be activated now by visiting this page and logging into your account.

Here are the terms that explain which purchases will earn the 5% cashback in the 4th quarter:
- Amazon.com purchases include those made through the Amazon.com checkout, including digital downloads, Amazon.com gift cards, Amazon Fresh orders, Amazon Local Deals and Amazon Prime subscriptions and items sold by third party merchants through Amazon.com’s marketplace.
- Check with your Wholesale Club to make sure your Discover card is accepted. Certain Wholesale Club services, such as travel and cell phone purchases may not be eligible in this category.
- Purchases made using tap-and-pay, mobile or wireless card readers, virtual wallets or similar technology may not be eligible. Rewards are added to your Cashback Bonus account within two billing periods.
Maximizing
Who doesn’t love to buy stuff and more stuff on Amazon.com? With the holidays being part of Q4, I suspect many of you will naturally be able to max out this category just on gift purchases. If not, then your purchases at Sam’s Club and other warehouse clubs could help.
Keep in mind that Costco does not accept Discover in-store, however they DO accept Discover online! (Think iTunes gift card deals!) You can also buy Costco Cash cards to use for fuel or in-store purchases.
3rd Quarter Reminder
As a reminder Discover is paying 5% on Restaurant purchases in the 3rd quarter (through September 30). While it can be tougher to meet the $1,500 in spend at restaurants, make sure to take advantage whenever possible!
Get the Card
If you don’t have the Discover it card currently, you can earn double cashback your first year. That means you earn 2% cashback on normal purchases and 10% cashback on bonus category purchases.
Normally the best offer is a $50 statement credit, however right now you can get a $75 bonus for signing up!

The Costco website trick for Discover is good for a lot more than just the iTunes gift card – most importantly you can buy Costco gift cards (“Costco Cash”) on the site using Discover, and then use that like cash in store or at their gas pumps.
