Articles

Here are the articles for this edition:

CFPB effectively dissolves Consumer Advisory Board – CNN Money

This is bad news for us, the little people.  I used CFPB to get my 100K from the Platinum sign up bonus from a few years ago.  I don’t think it was a coincidence that American Express added in their new TERRIBLE terms a day after this was announced.  Gonna be tough sledding going further.

Near Disaster: Chase Ultimate Rewards And Flying Blue – Seat31B

Something to be aware of it you ever use the Flying Blue award program.  You can also read his review of the flight, I am not impressed with their service.

Amazon Return Policy Abusers Get Jail Time – Danny the Deal Guru

It is amazing that they were able to make it go as long as it did and get as much money out of it as they did.  Just crazy.

Why you should SHRED those balance transfer offers in the mail – Miles Per Day

I usually rip mine up but may need to be more proactive.  That is definitely not an email you want to wake up to.

  1. Wow does that suck about the CFPB. I guess we need to keep moving back to the days of the Robber Barons, where normal people had virtually no rights.

  2. @Christian Relax. Pre CFPB just a few years ago was not the wild west. It is the function of the courts to protect your rights, not an unaccountable bureaucracy. Besides, the “advisory board” is just a way for political cronies to get paid to do nothing. Good riddance.

    • I will say CFPB helped me out of a jam and it was a lot easier than going to small claims court. If it is shuttered, as it appears to be going, then it will be a loss to consumers – maybe not a major loss but it will make getting what you are owed a little bit harder.

    • Except the board is unpaid. Oh yeah and it’s required by statute. And it’s a way for actual industry folk and advocates to guide the beaurocracy. And I think for many millions of americans the great recession that led the creation of the CFPB WAS the wild west. But otherwise I agree 100%!
