Chase Sending Out Another Terrible Spending Offer
I received an email from Chase for my wife’s Hyatt credit card…and it is pretty bad. I initially got pretty excited until I looked a little closer. Outside of their AARP offer from a few months ago they have been striking out with these “offers”. Too bad – I was just about to get my Hyatt card out of the credit card binder too.
Details on the Offer
It looks to be targeted, this is what the email says:
- Earn 1,000 Bonus Points when you make a purchase over $2,000 .
- You can earn 1,000 extra Bonus Points on up to 4 eligible purchases, for a total of up to 4,000 extra Bonus Points.
- This is in addition to the Bonus Points you always earn with your card
At first I read it as 1,000 points after $2,000 which is ok. Then I saw that it works only for a single $2000 purchase or more….blah! Getting 1.5 Hyatt points per dollar on a large purchase is not an enticing deal to me. You can get 1.5 Ultimate Rewards points on every purchase (3X these days) with the Chase Freedom Unlimited card…which is essentially the same thing!
If you had a large purchase coming up where you could do this it would probably be better to put it on another card. Or towards minimum spend for a sign up bonus. For the regular consumer out there, maybe this would be a good thing. If they want to entice real spending from the well informed (us!) outside the box thinking is needed.
At least they still came out with Hyatt Chase Offers this week. That is something I guess.
